About the Role:
- The focus of the position is to act as a discipline lead and subject matter expert for telecom systems deployed and operated within International Operations
- The Senior Telecoms Engineer plays a key role within Woodside's International Digital Field Services Team providing technical advice, guidance and strategic direction of the telecoms portfolio
- This role will support International Oil & Gas and New Energy green and brownfield capital projects as Telecoms Lead (up to 50% allocation)
- The position plays an important role in the governance of risk and compliance of telecoms systems including assurance activities related to safety critical telecoms hardware
Duties & Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Lead the discipline for telecom systems across International Operations.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in telecom systems.
- Ensure telecom solutions are consistently delivered to meet Woodside Engineering standards and industry best practices.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the telecoms team as needed.
- Maintain frameworks, standards, and a strategic roadmap for the full lifecycle management of telecom systems, including design and maintenance, in coordination with the Australia-based telecoms team.
- Deliver telecom project scopes, including the development of select engineering deliverables as required.
HSE, Risk, and Compliance
- Manage telecom systems risk and compliance according to the company framework.
- Actively participate in all aspects of health and safety concerning the delivery of telecom services.
- Oversee and ensure consistency and robustness in managing safety-critical telecom hardware controls.
- Provide technical support as needed, commensurate with risk, to telecom safety hardware control owners, including engagement in performance/regulatory standard updates, operational risk management reviews, and maintenance deferral decisions.
- Participate in second-line assurance activities of telecom critical controls.
Capital Projects
- Support (up to 50% allocation) International Oil & Gas and New Energy green and brownfield capital projects as Telecoms Lead with the following responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of telecom systems throughout the project in alignment with the Basis of Design (BOD).
- Act as the client representative for telecommunication systems with each contractor.
- Develop working relationships with project stakeholders, engineers, and the Digital function.
- Provide engineering input on contractor telecoms deliverables throughout the design cycle.
- Manage telecoms technical interfaces and queries across project boundaries and ensure effective handover to operations.
- Support procurement, FAT, IFAT, commissioning, and handover to operations activities, including international and offshore travel as required.
Skills & Experience:
Experience
- Engineering experience in Oil & Gas operations or project delivery such as EPC environment.
- Demonstrated solid analytical problem-solving techniques.
- Has written technical specifications, reports and other documentation with clear written and oral communication skills.
- Experience demonstrates self-starter, autonomous work capability while remaining a team player.
Skills & Competencies
- Expert knowledge across telecom systems including; various analogue and digital radio technologies, satellite, microwave radio, ETV, CCTV, PAGA, LAN, WAN and wireless connectivity, video conferencing, navigation, security.
- Experienced in the installation, commissioning and operation of telecom systems.
- Proven ability to analyze, design, implement and optimize telecom systems.
- Fully familiar with relevant international codes, standards, recommended practices and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunication or Electrical Engineering or a related degree.
- 8+ years' experience in detailed engineering and design of telecom systems.
- Prefer at least 4 years in Oil & Gas industry.
