The Research Assistant II provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research not related to clinical trials or laboratory. The RA II assists with reporting and developing new research proposals, and trains and orients staff.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
- Study cohort management.
- Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
- Assists with preparing progress reports with basic prescriptive statistics.
- Gathers information to aid in the development of future research proposals.
- Trains and orients new staff.

Education:
B.S. or B.A.

Experience:

  • One or more years of experience working in a research setting, preferably clinical research with participants.
  • Preferred experience working with direct participant or patient interaction.
  • Preferred experience in performing cognitive testing and administering behavioral questionnaires in a research or clinical setting, preferably in older adult research participants or patients.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work under stress; the clinical research setting is a very dynamic and demanding environment.
  • Ability to work well independently, prioritizing work according to and within established study protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to interact with a variety of people in person and on the telephone. Must be able to relate well with participants, study partners, physicians/investigators, and administrators.
  • Strong team player and can communicate well within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • High level of organization skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and protocol requirements.
  • Possess well-developed computer skills.
  • Respects the strict confidentiality of medical records and study data.
  • Excellent organizational skills.


The Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment at Brigham and Women's Hospital is looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team to help us fulfill our mission to help study potential treatments for Alzheimer's Disease.The position will be responsible for the coordination of clinical trials and/or observational studies, as well as the administration of cognitive (psychometric) testing and behavioral questionnaires to study participants who are enrolled or screening for clinical/observational trials. Other duties may include (but are not limited to): data entry quality assurance checks, participant recruitment and outreach, and assisting with projects to support and grow CART' infrastructure.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who may be looking at a graduate degree in psychology, or who is pursuing a medical degree (RN, PA, MD, RP, etc.).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates Alzheimer's disease clinical trials and/or observational studies. This includes working with study PI (Principal Investigators) and other team members to ensure that all study procedures are completed correctly, interacting with the sponsor of the study on a regular basis, addressing sponsor queries, submitting Investigational Review Board (IRB) amendments, scheduling participants, and supervising study decisions and daily operations.
  • Administers cognitive (psychometric) testing and behavioral questionnaires for clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, and multicenter observational imaging/biomarker trials.
  • Performs data entry and quality assurance checks for administered tests and questionnaires.
  • Maintains communication between participants and physicians to ensure their health and safety.
  • Works with the IRB and study sponsor to initiate studies at our site.
  • Works with our clinical trial management system, assists with updating study information, as necessary.
  • Under the supervision of a study physician or nurse, obtains and records pertinent health information, as well as maintains all necessary source documents relating to research participants.
  • Trains new research assistants in cognitive testing, lab packaging, and daily operations along with training and managing new interns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as position requires.
