Summary
Provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.
Essential Functions
Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
-Study cohort management.
-Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
-Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research.

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Science required

Experience
New grad with some relevant coursework 0-1 year preferred

The Mongan Institute Health Policy Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) seeks a full-time research assistant for research projects at the intersections of public health, clinical care, health services research, and health policy. Current studies include examining the effects of tobacco and vaping control policies; promoting healthy eating, nutrition, and food security; and studying the impact of prevention and improved health care management on health care costs and efficiency. The research assistant will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Levy, and will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of clinicians, social scientists, and statisticians. This position is an excellent opportunity for those interested in gaining experience in disease prevention, health promotion, public health policy, and health services research. This role offers opportunities for skill-building in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research while working alongside experts engaging in impactful research to improve public health outcomes. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented candidate interested in improving their analytical skills within a collaborative and dynamic research team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the clinical research assistant include but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Helping to coordinate research operations across multiple team members and projects.
  • Assisting with qualitative data collection and analysis from interviews with policy officials.
  • Identifying, obtaining, and combining disparate data sources.
  • Maintaining research-related files and regulatory materials including Institutional Review Board compliance.
  • Basic data analyses.
  • Monitoring and tracking policy data from various sources.
  • Conducting literature reviews.
  • Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and reports to funding agencies.
  • Assisting with the preparation of scientific abstracts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Providing general administrative support to all project members.
Position Requirement:* A bachelor's degree is required* Experience working in a research setting is highly desired SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: The candidate must possess superior organizational, administrative, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with office staff, colleagues at other academic and government institutions, as well as with research participants. Enthusiasm for the topic areas is crucial.

Additional skills, abilities, and competencies include:

  • Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications when needed.
  • Familiarity with other software such as R/Stata/SAS, NVivo/Dedoose, REDCap and/or MS Access is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to anticipate, manage, and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Ability to keep multiple tasks and projects on track simultaneously.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new research and study-related skills.
  • Capacity to manage various aspects of data collection, entry, and management.
  • Intellectual independence and initiative.
  • Interest in public health, health policy, and/or medicine, especially issues relating to vulnerable and underserved populations.
  • A minimum of a 1-year commitment is required, 2-year commitment is preferred.
