Senior Research Assistant, OBGYN, Hybrid

As a member of the Ob/Gyn Epidemiology Center, the senior research assistant will be responsible for multiple projects and serve as the lead assistant to other research assistants and staff on all lab related projects. The senior research assistant will work closely with the Project Manager and PI in the development and execution of all aspects of several studies, including patient recruitment and follow-up, data collection, specimen processing, lab management and organization, as well as the opportunity to contribute to publications.

Two ongoing studies will be the focus for this Senior RA. The first is a longitudinal case control study of endometriosis (Boston Center for Endometriosis/Women's Health Study: From Adolescence to Adulthood), with ongoing yearly contact of previously enrolled subjects. This study is a cross-institutional project between Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. A second MGB gynecology study, which is a joint project between Brigham and Women's Hospital and Mass General Hospital, is in the recruitment phase.

The Senior RA will help manage the team, assist with communications, manuscript preparation, presentations, and data archiving.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Responsible for aspects of direction and administration of multiple ongoing and planned research projects
  • Weekly review through EPIC of surgical schedules for BWH Gynecology/Oncology providers in order to identify and enroll eligible subjects.
  • Schedule research visits
  • Recruit participants/administer the informed consent document
  • Data entry/management/cleaning, designing/editing of REDCap questionnaires, medical record abstraction/coding
  • Act as the lead laboratory research assistant for the Boston Center for Endometriosis Biorepository, including coordinating and managing various laboratory projects requiring the accurate creation of sample aliquots for transport to outside collaborators
  • Process blood, urine, saliva, for storage in the biorepository
  • Collaborate on literature reviews
  • Manage confidential data and maintain multiple databases. Attention to detail paramount
  • Conducts research visits with enrolled subjects
  • Responsible for all Biorepository planning and the scheduling of laboratory staff
  • Ensure ongoing data integrity for the projects by overseeing data collection and recording
  • Provide investigators with current references.Independently researches the literature and follows up on specific requests from research staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a research environment, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous work in epidemiology preferred.
  • Experience working with Excel and ACCESS required. Experience with Redcap, PowerPoint and SAS experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons of all levels. Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons with chronic disease in order to gain their cooperation in research projects and allay apprehensions.
  • Demonstrated analytic skills to problem solve effectively.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Must possess a great deal of integrity to maintain confidentiality. Must demonstrate accuracy in maintaining data. Strong database management and overall computer skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize and organize work responsibilities to meet deadlines so as not to hamper the progress of studies.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting and effectively train and supervise the work of others, which requires onsite work.

Must be able to make independent decisions underlittle supervision for the above-mentioned job responsibilities
