Job Summary

The Senior Director, Forecasting - Business Product Owner is responsible for driving the strategic vision, development, and execution of forecasting products to support a wide range of CMG use cases. This role leads cross-functional collaboration to align forecasting capabilities with enterprise priorities, ensuring digital-forward innovation that enhances business decision-making and customer engagement. The Senior Director partners with senior leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams to shape product strategy, optimize resource allocation, and drive adoption. As the central owner of forecasting product lifecycles, this leader ensures seamless integration, measurable impact, and continuous evolution to meet the dynamic needs of patients, customers, and the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Roadmap Management

  • Define and implement the strategic roadmap for individual products in the Forecasting business product suite our product(s) for each of a variety of CMG use cases.

  • Work with business leaders across CMG and IX to sense, gather, and define business requirements by using customer insights, user feedback/input, and technology trends to shape Forecasting product strategy.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure each product's life cycle plan aligns with technical feasibility, usability, and market needs.

  • Ensure that insights from product performance and usability metrics are integrated into product plans for enhancement and optimization.

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Collaborate with IT, data management, and data science/AI teams to develop clear, analytics-relevant product specifications, guiding the development process with well-defined user stories and requirements.

  • Together with the IT technical owner, lead the business planning and launch of Forecasting products and features to ensure seamless execution from ideation to release.

  • Accountable for the full product lifecycle, overseeing product planning and release milestones, and ensuring products achieve timeline, resource, and business goals.

  • Develop business cases to drive experimentation within the business/IT product team to evaluate new cross-product innovations, integration capabilities, and features.

  • Ensure products meet internal standards with respect to user experience and user design/interface.

  • Evolve Forecasting products continuously based on user feedback and emerging technologies, or otherwise sunsetting/merging or retiring products that no longer meet business needs.

  • Ensure product scalability with respect to data complexity and AI model integration to support broader use cases across CMG.

Cross-functional Partnership

  • Evangelize the role of Forecasting product(s) in achieving enterprise objectives, communicating their value proposition and roadmap(s) to senior leaders and stakeholders across CMG.

  • Communicate product plans, progress, and impact to leadership, activation leads, and other business owners.

  • In collaboration with the technical product managers, align business outcomes with technical feasibility to ensure the Forecasting product delivers both business value and technical performance.

  • Implement review and validation processes with business activation owners to ensure that user experience with business products is optimized and products are designed around users workflows.

  • Expertly drive alignment of roadmaps and initiatives with applicable Business Product Owners / Suite Stewards to meet patient, customer, and internal user needs.

  • Partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to prioritize the product backlog.

Adoption Enablement, Experimentation & Performance Optimization

  • Serve as the champion of the Forecasting Suite while also balancing the needs of the enterprise, prioritizing and sequencing product releases that are orchestrated with other suites across the portfolio. Ability to ruthlessly prioritize, knowing when to pause or slow down development or activation, putting the advancement of the enterprise first.

  • Collaborate with business owners, end-user Activation Leads, and Learning and Skills Development to support product adoption -- providing materials and domain expertise to advise on training and change management.

  • Regularly monitor and report on product objectives and key results (OKRs) to optimize product usability, accuracy, and effectiveness in driving decision-making and actions towards customer engagement.

  • Partner with Medical, Commercial, and Access function leadership to advise on the creation and execution of comprehensive learning experiences (e.g., training modules, workshops, and hands-on sessions) to upskill users of Forecasting Suite products.

  • Partner with UX/UI designers and business owners to ensure the products provide a seamless, user-friendly experience designed around user workflows.

  • Improve and evolve the products usability and functionality by synthesizing and incorporating user feedback from Activation Leads and other business owners.

  • Evaluate market and technology trends to ensure the products remain optimized and deliver increasing business value.

Governance and Compliance

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

People

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Forecasting product team, fostering an exemplary employee experience, including a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

  • Provide guidance, training, and career development opportunities for team members.

  • Allocate and shift resources effectively to ensure balanced workloads and optimized team performance and business impact.

  • Cultivate an environment of both accountability and performance-based incentives with ongoing and annual performance management and rewards and recognition of all direct reports.

  • Lead or oversee inclusive hiring of direct and indirect reports.

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, technology, operations, science, marketing, or a related field.

  • 10-12+ years of experience, with 5+ years in product management, digital product operations, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to own and manage the full product lifecycle, including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement.

  • Proven expertise in driving product innovation based on industry trends and measurement and optimization insights.

  • Fluency / comfort with data systems, technology platforms, and integrations to inform strategic product decisions.

  • Advanced proficiency in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent (direct or indirect).

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to drive change, influence stakeholders, and evangelize the product vision.

  • Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance and regulatory standards, and help influencing and evolving standards where needed

  • Track record of fostering innovation and experimentation to improve product capabilities.

  • Proven ability to adapt and navigate ambiguous or evolving environments.

  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on balancing short-term execution and long-term vision.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree, or equivalent experience (e.g., MBA or related graduate-level qualification).

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries.

  • Proven success in managing large-scale, complex projects requiring strategic planning and operational execution.

  • Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks.

Location

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and offers a hybrid schedule working from the office 3 days per week.

  • Relocation assistance is not available at this time.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $199,500 - $370,500 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
