Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Junior Mechanic services, repairs and overhauls airframe, engine, propeller, components and appliances to ensure airworthiness by performing the following duties under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  1. Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and rebuilds structures components and appliances, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  2. Reads and interprets OEM and DoD Technical Manuals, service bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, local directives and other specifications to determine maintenance method and procedures while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  3. Examine engines for component damage and security, heat damage, and fluid leaks while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  4. Inspects turbine blades to detect Foreign Object damage or material wear or failure through visual and borescope while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  5. Tests engine operation to locate source of malfunction or perform operational checks while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  6. Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components such as fuel controller, starter/generators etc. while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  7. Removes engine from aircraft, disassembles as required and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic. Repairs/replaces parts as required while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic. Reassembles and reinstalls engine while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  8. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including change and / or inspect fuel, and oil filters, cleaning screens, aircraft lubrication, wheel and tire maintenance such as tire changes, clean and inspect wheels and bearings while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic. Charge and service Nicad batteries, aircraft, and engine compressor wash, clean and servicing on-board sanitation facilities while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  9. Mix paint and apply for touch-up of aircraft and components while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  10. Maintains aircraft maintenance forms and completes Computerized Aircraft Maintenance Program (CAMP's) forms, and MISA forms as required while under the direction of an A&P Mechanic.
  11. All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Excellent communication skills with customers and employees.

MATH ABILITY:

This position requires the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Word, processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-Mail, Database software, Inventory software, and order processing software.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to travel at relatively short notice for short periods. This position requires varied work shifts.

  • Must be able to use ladders, stands, lifts, etc. and be able to work on all areas of aircraft.
  • Physical exertion: pulling, bending, pushing, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting / carrying of containers, equipment, etc. up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds.
  • May work inside or outside of maintenance hangar.
  • This position requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to work various shifts which may include evening and weekend hours.


  • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste and smell.
  • The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
