Job Description Summary |
- The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment at Auburn University is seeking a qualified individual for a position as a postdoctoral Fellow in the field of forest products to work on drying forest products, producing and characterizing biocarbon from forest feedstock, and/or manufacturing composites using forest feedstock. The primary task of this position is to help build a sustainable bioproducts research platform with a focus on using biocarbon for environmental remediation and developing other novel products from forest feedstock. The major tasks include mentoring graduate students, developing new research ideas, and publishing high-impact research articles. This 12-month, limited-term, non-tenure track position is funded by external sources. Continued employment for up to 24 months is contingent on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The candidate will have opportunities working on projects funded by USDA Forest Service with team members from different institutes. Possibilities of working in other institutes' facilities (e.g., Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory) for short time periods are expected.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in wood science, forest products, biomaterials, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely related field (within 5 years after completing the Ph.D.) at the time employment begins.
- The successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to the timely completion of deliverables, commitment to the publication of results in peer-reviewed journals, and strong potential to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders on a highly visible research topic.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

* Expertise with biochar adsorption/desorption of heavy metal ions in water
* Familiarity with biomass carbonization
* Expertise in forest products development
* Understanding fundamental wood-water relationships.
* Expertise in understanding of wood/pulp drying |
