Staff RN - Anchor Mother/ Baby

  • Provides age-appropriate care to newborn babies (low to moderate risk newborns). Serves as primary nurse for babies assigned to the nursery (i.e., "border" babies).
  • Serves as resource to primary RN/Physicians.
  • Collaborates with primary nurse and charge nurse regarding work assignments.
  • May assist with admission at birth and/or to the unit and discharge process as needed.
  • May float to labor and delivery to conducts the newborn assessment and admission at delivery.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in basic breastfeeding techniques.
  • Assists primary RN/Physicians in special procedures as needed (i.e., blood cultures, diagnostic workups, circumcision, etc.); May complete pre-op checklist; provides post-procedure oversight and monitoring.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff and ongoing competency assessment of staff.
  • May verify competency of unit staff - annually and ongoing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  2. Licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
  3. Must hold Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  1. BSN degree
  2. Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
  3. One (1) year of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in Family Centered Care/Maternal Infant Unit/Neonatal Intensive Care
  4. Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.
  5. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
