About this Opportunity
Ball State University Recreation Services is looking to add an additional member to its staff, the Coordinator of Recreation Operations for Facilities and Concessions. Recreation Services, a department within Business and Auxiliary Services, has a reputation of managing facilities and programs in a safe, customer service oriented, and professional way. Recreation Services is looking for someone with the appropriate qualifications, certifications, and demeanor to manage multiple programs, areas, events, and students, while at the same time contributing to a positive work atmosphere.

Length of Assignment Full-Time At-Will
Position Function
Provide support in the areas of facilities, aquatics, concessions, and event coverage including but not limited to: programs, club sport events, recreation services events, as well as promotion of all recreation venues. Ability to work nights and weekends.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, credentials, certification and experience.
Minimum Experience
At least one year of professional recreation experience (a two-year graduate assistant position is equivalent to one year of professional experience) by date of hire; at least one year of direct management of student staff and facility risk management experience by date of hire.
Minimum Other
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification ( LGI), and ServSafe certification. All certifications must be obtained within 45 days of employment. Maintain and possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
Master's degree in recreation administration, sport administration, or related field from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, credentials, certification and experience.
Preferred Experience
At least two years of professional experience in college or university recreation aquatics, facilities, concessions, and events. Experience in the following systems such as: Banner, UKG, SciQuest, CSGOLD, Innosoft Fusion, CBORD, OneDrive, WhenToWork, Formstack, and CampusLabs or equivalent.
Preferred Other
Certified Pool Operating ( CPO) License or equivalent. Active involvement in the National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association ( NIRSA) and/or active involvement in the Indiana Recreation Sports Association ( IRSA).
Pre-Employment Screening Requires successful completion of a Drivers License check, Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.
Position Title(s) Supervised
Approximately 80 students (facility leads and assistance in the management of lifeguards, concessions, marketing students)
Required Certifications

Duties & Responsibilities


Ranking 1
Job Duty
Administer and further develop, plan, and coordinate a comprehensive university informal recreation program including but not limited to informal recreation activity areas, aquatic facility management, special event management, facility maintenance, and concession operations.

Job Duty
Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, manage, discipline, and develop student employees including facility leads, lifeguards, concession employees, and marketing students.

Job Duty
Manage the day-to-day operations of all facility related functions within Recreation Services and concession operations including but not limited to: communication of all facility related needs to student staff, facility maintenance logs and work order creation, ordering of Recreation Services and concession supplies through approved vendors, maintaining appropriate marketing and communication unit marks for all internal and external purchases, and oversight in the creation of standing orders, purchase orders, inventory management, and proper invoice payment for all reimbursements and orders conducted for the department.

Assist with financial resources including student payroll, equipment, facility maintenance, and concession operations in financial and data entry in accordance with university policies and procedures under the guidance of Recreation Services leadership.

Regularly evaluate and revise department goals.

Provide support in the procurement, management, and inventory of all informal recreation equipment and supplies as well as concession operations.
