About the Department
The Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Online Education ( CETLOE) at Georgia State University is dedicated to advancing the scholarship and practice of exemplary instruction. CETLOE provides professional development opportunities for instructors across all colleges and schools, supporting them throughout their teaching careers and across various modalities, from face-to-face to fully online environments.
CETLOE collaborates with instructors on course design and the implementation of instructional technologies to enhance student learning and engagement. The center also partners with schools, colleges, and departments to develop and support exceptional and engaging curricula from associate to doctoral programs.

Position Description
Georgia State University's Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Online Education ( CETLOE) invites applications for the position of Director of Teaching Effectiveness.The Director of Teaching Effectiveness at CETLOE will:

* Lead and oversee the Teaching Effectiveness team, including supervising Assistant & Associate Directors and Faculty Associates and fostering a collaborative, supportive work environment.
* Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance teaching effectiveness, aligning with institutional goals for quality education, student success, and equity in learning.
* Design, implement, and assess professional development programs, workshops, and learning communities to support teaching innovation and faculty development at all career stages.
* Oversee faculty workshops, seminars, and events, including orientations and themed instructional showcases.
* Develop initiatives for curriculum innovation, integrating research on pedagogy and student engagement to support academic departments.
* Serve as a liaison to academic departments, assisting deans and department heads in identifying and addressing specific faculty development needs.
* Collaborate with the Provost's Office and other campus stakeholders to support CETLOE's contributions to university goals, including initiatives in teaching aimed at advancing student success.
* Promote interdisciplinary faculty learning communities and facilitate resource-sharing and knowledge exchange among faculty across disciplines.
* Lead program evaluation efforts to assess the impact of teaching effectiveness initiatives and support data-driven improvements.
* Guide faculty in designing and assessing learning outcomes at both course and program levels, applying evidence-based practices and innovative assessment techniques.
* Managing staffing resources and project workflows within the Teaching Effectiveness unit, ensuring effective use of resources.
* Advise the Executive Director on the planning and allocation of funds for professional development grants, curriculum innovation projects, and other faculty support initiatives

The Director, Teaching Effectiveness is a full-time, 12-month appointment, reporting directly to the
the Executive Director, CETLOE.

Candidates who hold faculty rank at their current institution may be eligible for equivalent faculty rank at Georgia State.
Required Experience
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in faculty development or teaching and learning centers, with at least three years in a leadership role.
Record of publishing or presenting research on teaching and learning, or supporting scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) projects.

Candidates holding a faculty rank at their current institution may be eligible for a comparable faculty appointment at Georgia State University.
Required Education
The successful candidate must have have earned a Master's degree in education, instructional design, educational psychology, or a related field, or an earned doctorate in any field at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Demonstrate the following:

  • Expertise in designing faculty development programs.
  • Managing resources, and employing outcomes-based assessment techniques.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills are essential.
