Job Summary
The Research Administrator is an integral member of the UCDCCC Administration team and reports to the Finance and Business Officer (FBO). The position provides high-level fiscal, and analytical support to the Associate Director for Administration (AD), Center Director, and Principal Investigators (PIs) engaged in cancer-related research.
The Research Administrator will conduct fiscal analyses and provide regulatory research, compliance oversight, and implementation within a complex and matrixed environment. Independently works with the Office of Research, Accounting and Financial Services, Business Contracts, and Divisions and Departments across UC Davis to perform the fiscal and regulatory administration of extramural and intramural research.
Responsibilities include management of post-award operating budgets and budget justifications and oversee overall appropriations and annual expenses sourced from federal, state, and private agencies. Administer internal and external funded agreements including fund management, financial reporting, effort reporting, and programmatic support. Independently analyze and interpret grant proposals, extramural awards, and contracts to ensure adherence to federal, state, foundation, and private regulations and ensure that financial transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP. The Research Administrator analyzes programmatic needs and makes policy relevant recommendations for research funds. - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum of 2 years of grant management, including federal and state awards.
- Extensive experience using analytical and critical thinking skills to research and interpret data and policy, contribute to solutions, forecast the impact of potential actions, develop logical conclusions, and/or recommend solutions.
- Demonstrated financial accounting and/or auditing experience.
- Demonstrated experience and/or skills to develop estimates and assumptions to support the budget.
- Advanced knowledge or and skills to develop and review complicated, multi-year, multi-funded projects budget in accordance with sponsor guidelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of grant funding processes and procedures
- Demonstrated skills to review and analyze budget variances from actual expenditures and to forecast.
- Demonstrated skills creating and formating spreadsheets and databases using relative cell references and pivot tables for presentation.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to set work priorities with pressure of deadlines.
- Statistical skills to compile, analyze, and present financial data in a clear and concise format.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to understand and appropriately respond to multiple and frequent inquiries, requests, and instructions in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- CRA Certification or intention to obtain certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
- Experience with Aggie Enterprise, Cayuse, UC Path, Cognos, etc.
- Knowledge or ability to understand University fund accounting, generally accepted accounting principles and government auditing standards.
- Knowledge of University contracts/grants, financial, accounting and payroll policies and procedures.
