Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Education/Academic Administrator, the Associate Director of Education will oversee the Plant Breeding Academies (PBAs) in Davis and Europe, support PBAs in Africa (including CRISPR-related programs), and manage all short courses. This role involves enhancing and delivering programs in collaboration with PBA Directors, handling onsite logistics, coordinating with international personnel, and managing financial reporting. Supervise one staff member responsible for coordinating various short courses and events, such as Seed Central, Seed Production, Seed Business 101 & 201, the Leadership Program, Online E-Series, Seed Biology, Quality & Pathology, and more.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in field related to managing events or educational courses, preferably in Hospitality Management, Communication or other.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in program management or event management.
  • Previous experience supervising at least 1 employee.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience guiding, managing and supervising larger groups of individuals such as company staff, students and/or instructors.
  • Experience managing an educational programs is required, including handling registration, instructor/student coordination, preparation of educational materials, coordinating catering, managing hotel room blocks, managing financials.
  • Experience in web design and graphic design, including Adobe programs and web-based programs.
  • Knowledge and experience organizing events across continents and communicating and working with individuals in other countries, languages and cultures.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the professional development courses and events offered by the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations.
  • Have the capacity to supervise at least one employee, while effectively managing their own programs and overseeing the programs and responsibilities of their direct reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years' experience working in program management or event management.
  • 10 years' experience guiding, managing and supervising larger groups of individuals such as company staff, students and/or instructors.
  • Experience organizing large conferences up to 5000 attendees.
  • Experience managing and organizing diverse portfolio of multiple educational courses in-person, and online both short and long in duration.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis systems is preferred: Aggie Enterprise, Concur, UC Registration, CEMS Facilities, Aggie Travel, Aggie Video, Box.com.
  • Analytical skills to assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many internal parties in a large organizational structure.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
