The Opportunity:

The Fire Safety Specialist II provides leadership and technical support to the Fire Safety Team by promoting and advancing fire and life safety on campus. The specialist is responsible for coordinating, assisting with, and conducting inspections, supporting and coordinating state fire marshal related activities, conducting event safety assessments (i.e. SAFE Forms), researching the Florida Fire Code to ensure compliance to include recommendations for corrective action as needed, and responding to fire alarm emergencies. This position also serves as the fire safety liaison for UCF with outside entities for related activities, permits, and safety training.

Responsibilities:


  • Assists the Senior Manager, Safety in all areas of the Fire Safety Program including overseeing the day-to-day work and activities, the direct supervision of staff within the Fire Safety Team and conducting the review of the fire safety policies and procedures as needed.

  • Coordinates and performs compliance inspections and escorts outside authorities and contractors on all matters related to fire and life safety. Executes all associated follow-up actions necessary to issue or process reports, initiates resolution, and ensures proper corrective actions are implemented. Acts as the UCF liaison with the State Fire Marshal and local authorities.

  • Oversees the process of assessing potentially hazardous events (i.e., SAFE forms) focusing on ensuring that event details comply with fire and life safety laws and event best practices, along with identifying when escalation of event review is needed. Oversees the Hot Work Program, as well as the inspections of the Fire Extinguishers.

  • Assists the department in issuing permits, guidelines, and general reviews for safety compliance with associated records, files, and databases (including data gathering and analysis for Clery Act compliance).

  • Develops and maintains a strong up-to-date knowledge of the Florida Fire Code and university facilities to ensure compliance goals are met.

  • Provides support for special events, game days, and emergencies during regular and non-regular work hours as needed.

  • Assists in the planning and delivery of safety training, emergency drills, and emergency evacuation events.

  • Creates and updates internal documents as needed and assists in maintaining all department records, files, and databases. Supports the department with other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Safety, or other related field, or at least 1 years of relevant experience.

  • Prior supervisory experience.
