Job Title: Sr. Mechanical Estimator City: Orlando State: FL
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Lead mechanical estimating responsibility for complex projects with MEP package contract value of $25M+ by managing team members, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates.
- Utilize Mechanical Autobid and Sheetmetal Autobid software to prepare detailed quantity take-offs, analyses, and estimates for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems, from conceptual design to completed construction documents.
- Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents including blueprints and specifications to determine required scope.
- Establish working relationships with SourceBlue, local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of plumbing fixtures, HVAC equipment, piping and sheet metal material, and miscellaneous material pricing.
- Develop mechanical conceptual designs and provide first costs analysis based on the design and narrative.
- Participate in decision making process with Operations and Procurement to determine MEP trade partners to utilize in project pursuits.
- Develop and implement training programs for mechanical trades, including new software, local building codes, and design standards including ASHRAE and SMACNA.
- Conduct value engineering analysis to define cost efficient alternatives to proposed Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare detailed estimates and proposals for various contract types, including lump sum, GMP, and Cost-Plus contracts.
- Participate in project hand-off to Operations to ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to operations.
- Participate in authoring scope requisitions for bidding/procurement of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems; coordinate with fellow estimators to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps.
- Communicate and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers via building connected software; and evaluate their proposals relative to their scope of work and determine scope coverage and manage identified scope gap risks.
- Gather and analyze Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection bid data for projects using system bid recording sheets and maintain historical cost database.
#LI-NM1 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 7 years of experience in job offered or 7 years of experience in the Related Occupation. RELATED OCCUPATION: Mechanical Engineer or any other job title performing the following job duties:
- Preparing cost estimates for plumbing piping work and/or HVAC work including labor material, equipment, subcontractors, and other direct costs using software MEP viewpoint estimation.
- Working according to plumbing and heating code.
- Reviewing plans and specifications to determine type of fixtures/equipment and material going to use for the job.
- Establishing and maintaining bidding process and setup cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
- Coordinating and communicating with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
- Preparing and maintaining a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Developing value engineering options with recommendations based on cost, engineering, equality, and availability of materials.
