Summary:

Responsible for performing a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization and distribution of trays/sets, equipment and supplies in Sterile Processing with direct supervision. Responsible for routine cleaning in the department. Participates in the distribution of OR supplies, trays/sets and equipment Performs all tasks as assigned in a neat and organized manner. Maintains and prevents cross contamination by observing dress codes, environmental policies and traffic control.

Education & Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required
  • Experience as an instrument technician of a minimum of one (1) year is desired or vocational training in Sterile Processing, or supply distribution or related job experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical laboratory may be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, proper sterilization procedures, decontamination and assembly procedures per IAHCSMM, AAMI, AORN, AST, OSHA, JCAHO, The
  • Joint Commission, safety standards, hospital and departmental policies and procedures, generally as related to the Sterile Processing department
  • Basic knowledge of surgical procedures, surgical instruments, sets and trays to include instruments, classification, disassembly, and cleaning procedure

Certification/Licensure:

  • Must be certified by CBSPD, CRCST, or HSPA
  • Current Heart Saver Certification within 30 days of hire and must be maintained
