General Description Senior Project Engineers are responsible for the technical supervision of complex projects, ensuring the work performed conforms to the contractual scope of work, budget, and schedule. Staff in this role are also responsible for maintaining positive relationships with clients, participating in developing the technical approach for proposals, and serving as a positive role model and mentor for junior staff. As a prerequisite, Senior Project Engineers also meet all criteria of a Project Engineer. Job Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of both large and small projects.
- Assist Project Managers in complying with assigned project schedules and budget on projects by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope.
- Have proven writing skills adequate to prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work.
- Work effectively and efficiently within prescribed budgets and monitor performance on a weekly basis.
- Develop and negotiate scopes, fees, and schedules with subconsultants under the guidance of a Project Manager.
- Develop technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or more complex projects to produce an effective and quality proposal.
- Develop technical solutions for complex projects by applying engineering knowledge and skills to produce quality work. Assists in the development and execution of all aspects of the project scope of work.
- Work closely with Project Managers to gain project management experience and track financial performance on tasks or projects under their control.
- Serve as the Technical Lead for the transportation components of more complex projects and be responsible for the technical coordination among other design disciplines and subconsultants.
- Supervise and train less experienced staff by proving daily guidance and checking their work and progress.
- Maintain quality control within the department by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions on projects.
- Attend and prepare for client meetings, including public hearings.
- Prepare for and perform oral presentations to clients regarding project deliverables.
- Assist Project Managers by leading construction administration tasks, such as construction progress meetings; submittal reviews; preparation of meeting agendas and minutes; review of daily and weekly construction reports; preparation of payment applications, RFIs, and change orders; coordination with Resident Project Representatives; completing project closeout; and tracking construction schedules.
- Demonstrate awareness of corporate priorities regarding quality of work, client satisfaction, and project profitability.
- Understand and be aware of contract terms and conditions, professional liability matters, and advises the Project Manager of any concerns.
- Participate in and present at approved external associations and professional conferences. * Identify areas of potential claims by preparing documentation and reporting Project Managers.
- Manage a direct report, including manage workload management, approve timesheets and expense reports, and guide career path development.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field and 6+ years of experience of increasing responsibility is required, or a Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field with 5 years of experience.
- Registrations Registered Professional Engineer, or working towards licensure within one year, in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity. Professional Licensure may not be required with additional years of experience upon recommendation by the manager and review by Senior Leadership.
- A driver's license is required.
