Clinical Dietitian - Spanish Speaker Preferred (24 hours/week)

Manages the comprehensive medical nutritional care of patients which includes providing nutrition assessment, development of nutrition care plans, diet modification, nutrition education, and all activities involved in the nutritional needs of the patient population.
The Clinical Dietitian will work on nutrition and lifestyle medicine research projects in the Center for Family Health Promotion and Nutrition Equity, with the Division of General Academic Pediatrics. This is a 24 hour per week position for an outpatient Registered Dietitian, licensed in the state of Massachusetts. This position will provide nutrition care to pediatric patients of the MGH Chelsea Health Center (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and MGH Revere Health Center (Mondays), both virtually and in-person. Hours are expected to be roughly 10am-6:30pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays based on clinical schedules.
The Clinical Dietitian will be part of the pediatric CHAMPION Program's multi-disciplinary care team which includes a physician and a Community Health Worker. The evidence-based CHAMPION program and research study seeks to evaluate whether telehealth vs. in-person delivery of CHAMPION is equally effective at reducing child BMI and asthma control in diverse lower income families. The CHAMPION program consists of individual and group visits guided by a set curriculum with a multi-disciplinary team (medical provider, dietitian, and community health worker), and other tools to support behavioral change and reduce body mass index (BMI) and asthma, such as follow-up phone calls, educational materials, social determinants of health screening and referral and text messaging. The Clinical Dietitian will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive medical nutrition therapy based on evidence-based practices, including screening, assessing, and implementing nutrition care plans for patients, and ensuring adherence to departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The Clinical Dietitian will provide care to children and adolescents with overweight/obesity and asthma, through group and individual visits, both in-person and virtually, and will participate in a Virtual Learning Community and Quality Improvement calls and activities as part of the research project.
Essential Functions
- Based on multiple criterion including assessment of nutritional needs, physician's orders, clinical data, interdisciplinary health care plans, and standards of quality nutritional care that appropriately meet age, psychosocial and physical needs of patients, the Dietitian develops and implements nutrition plan of care for patients.
- Documentation of all nutrition related information including assessment, nutrition therapy recommendations and care plan, follow up data and changes, diet consultation results, discharge planning, daily clinical activities, and other related orders and pertinent information.
- Counsel, educate, and develop resources and materials for the education of patients on families on prescribed therapeutic diets.
- Partner with food service staff to ensure meals, supplements, and nutrition support is provided; review patients' menu selections to monitor compliance with modified diets.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree Clinical Dietitian required

Licenses and Credentials

Dietitian and Nutritionist MA State License preferred

Heartsaver CPR AED Certification [CPR] preferred

Registered Dietitian [RD] preferred

Registered Dietitican Nutritionist [RDN] preferred

Experience

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to effectively evaluate and problem solve.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to guide, teach, and motivate all patient age populations, pediatric patients specifically

Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
