We are hiring an Indirect Tax Accountant in our Birmingham, AL corporate office.

About the Job:

Provide, under minimal supervision, property tax services for the Tax Department. Will work closely with Manager - Indirect Tax. Specific responsibilities may include 1) review property tax returns, 2) assist in preparing property tax accruals and annual budgets, and 3) assist the Tax Department with other special projects. Must be detail and deadline-oriented.

What You'll Do:



  • Work closely with 3rd party provider to maintain property tax database, timely update information regarding property tax parcels, assessments, renditions, and tax bill payments.
  • Gather and review source data for property tax renditions.
  • Coordinate preparation of property tax returns and appeal opportunities with 3rd party provider.
  • Review property tax returns generated by 3rd party provider and process tax payment funding request.
  • Assist with preparation of property tax accruals and annual budget.
  • Assist with researching and explaining property tax variances and accrual adjustments.
  • Assist in property tax audit responses and resolution.
  • Assist Tax department with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare annual Heavy Highway Use Tax returns and quarterly International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) returns; Communicate with operations personnel to obtain information for returns.
  • Prepare selected excise or severance tax returns.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:



  • Bachelor's degree with a business major (preferably Accounting or Finance).
  • Ideal candidate will have at least three years of property tax experience.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite, including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including experience with VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and sophisticated formulas.
  • Experience working with Oracle and any property tax management system is a plus.
  • Experience compiling and filing Federal & State Excise Taxes, Heavy Highway Use Tax and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) returns is a plus.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and communicate effectively and work well with limited supervision.
