GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for the continual monitoring of cardiac rhythms of electrocardiographic central station monitors and remote telemetry patients monitors. Maintains equipment, supplies, interprets cardiac rhythms and reports any changes or concerns of the cardiac rhythm to the appropriate nurse.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs, communicates and documents cardiac rhythm interpretation and documents dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation.

3. *Provides direct observation of telemetry monitors; distributes monitors to staff for unit/remote monitoring; and maintains monitoring equipment as needed.

4. *Records routine strips for the medical record; maintains documentation of routine strips and any changes in rhythm and rate.

5. *Maintains documentation regarding admissions, transfers and dismissals of all patients on telemetry monitors.

6. Recognizes and collaborates with IT and Biomed to troubleshoot technical monitor problems.

7. Prepares monitors and supplies for unit/remote monitoring.

8. Reviews daily records to assure accurate supply and equipment charges.

9. Initiates process to recover missing telemetry units as needed.

10. *Maintains and orders telemetry supplies and equipment as needed on the assigned unit.

11. Communicates with nursing staff regarding changing batteries and fixing leads.

12. Enters appropriate telemetry charges.

13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology.

2. Knowledge of basic cardiac monitoring procedures and methods.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Skill in the operation of cardiac monitoring equipment.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.

7. Ability to work as a team member.

8. Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac monitor information as provided by monitoring equipment.

9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient needs including working with patients with acute, chronic and complex disease processes and those who are dying.

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

11. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

12. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalency required. Successful completion of an ECG monitoring class within 6 months of hire required. Prior telemetry monitoring experience in a medical facility preferred.
