Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Department of Religious Studies is dedicated to the study of religions as historical and cultural phenomena. We take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding religious traditions from around the world: their history, sacred texts, beliefs, rituals, and institutions. The faculty conduct research and teach courses in a number of religious traditions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. They analyze religious life from the ancient and modern world, from ancient Sumer to present-day Iran, from early modern Europe to 21st-century India, from medieval Japan to contemporary America. |
Position Summary |
The Department of Religious Studies currently has 21 faculty members and 35 graduate students. Our growing, vibrant department requires a part-time Administrative Assistant to support faculty and staff. The Administrative Support Associate position serves as initial contact for the department and is responsible for reception/general office duties. These duties include greeting/referring/assisting visitors/students/faculty. In addition, this position provides administrative support for Religious Studies as a whole. In coordination with the department manager, this position processes all vendor payments for approval, processes student and faculty payments for approval using appropriate university systems and office technology like
CONCUR travel system and Bank of America Works System. This position helps to maintain payment records for reconciliation of accounts in Infoporte and Connect Carolina. The role develops reports and data using
SAS. The Admin prepares, receives and distributes mail/FedEx for Religious Studies. The employee maintains office supplies to run the department, distributes email to listservs as needed, updates websites as needed, and provides general program support for the Religious Studies Department as the primary staff assistant to the manager of the department. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Must be available to come to campus office at least 3 days a week during business hours.
- Must have knowledge of UNC systems such as ConnectCarolina and a basic understanding of UNC financial processes.
- Must have knowledge and basic understanding of the CONCUR travel expense system and related policies.
- Great organization skills and the ability to prioritize and track requests is imperative.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience with PaymentWorks purchasing card reconciliation, and
RASR (especially PO's, IC's and guest lectures) is preferred. Familiarity with Infoporte helpful. |

Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Lift up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to sit for long periods.
Ability to move easily around campus (Religious Studies has space in 3 buildings), including to/from distant parking.
Must be able to push a rolling cart or furniture dolly (event set-up). |
