Mission Contribution: The Lead Teacher is performance-driven and leads instructional strategies to support academic achievement and postsecondary success. The Lead Teacher provides tactical guidance, supervises curriculum implementation, and leads a team of educators to ensure effective delivery of instruction and continuous improvement. This role requires a blend of teaching expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to student success.

Summary: The Lead Teacher is results-driven and leads the Excel Center's instructional strategy to support academic success. The Lead Teacher provides tactical guidance, supervises instructional initiatives, and leads a team of educators to ensure the effective development, delivery, and assessment of instructional programs. This role requires a combination of teaching expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to achieving school-wide goals.

Essential Functions:


  1. Develop and align curricula and assessments with Virginia Standards of Learning and 21st Century Skills.
  2. Collaborate with teachers to design and enhance instructional strategies to improve student outcomes.
  3. Work with administrative teams and instructors to plan and execute academic interventions for students and staff.
  4. Foster a culture of high performance and inclusivity among staff and students.
  5. Serve as a coach leader, guiding and supporting team members to achieve their fullest potential.
  6. Conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, and assist with onboarding: Evaluate candidates, select the best fit for the team, support a seamless transition for new hires, and engage in recruitment opportunities to attract and retain top talent.
  7. Conduct regular performance reviews for team members, providing constructive feedback, setting goals for improvement, and fostering professional development
  8. Document and implement coaching/corrective actions: Identify performance issues, develop and execute improvement plans, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and foster ongoing professional development to enhance overall team effectiveness.
  9. Ensure that all new staff are properly trained within established timelines.
  10. Manage state and federal student testing processes, ensuring compliance and clear communication with central office, staff, and students.
  11. Implement and maintain systems for tracking student academic progress and school performance metrics.
  12. Support student recruitment, enrollment, and outreach activities.
  13. Partner with the school director to achieve school-wide objectives in graduation, enrollment, achievement, and retention.
  14. Attend training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
  16. Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Proficient in planning and delivering instruction to high school-aged students, particularly in nontraditional and adult education settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, with a focus on attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills to effectively convey information and support others.
  • Effective in collaborative settings, contributing to a positive learning environment and team success.
  • Ability to create, review, and utilize information to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Flexible and responsive to shifts in priorities while maintaining a productive and positive environment.
  • Proficient in G Suite, MS Office, and student information systems.
  • Working knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning and 21st Century Skills.
  • Capable of providing constructive feedback and guidance to improve instructional quality.
  • Skilled in analyzing data and developing solutions based on facts and probable outcomes.


Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction preferred.
  • 5-10 years of teaching experience at the high school level; administrative experience preferred.
  • Valid Virginia Teaching or Administration Certification in the subject area, or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required period of time upon employment.


Special Requirements:


  • Reliable transportation is required to commute to and from the center for scheduled shifts.
  • Open availability for all scheduled shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed to meet business demands.
  • Must provide a cell phone for specified work responsibilities, including the use of a phone-based application for authentication.
  • Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.
  • TB screening is a requirement for this position.
