Gas Transmission Engineering Intern

Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. They are responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Gas Transmission Engineering Intern will perform in a variety of roles to ensure data accuracy relating to the safe operation of PG&E's natural gas facilities. Under supervision, interns will perform engineering, drafting, and data management work in connection with the design, construction, maintenance, or operation of the Company assets or functions related thereto.Typical assignments include drafting, calculations, obtaining and analyzing engineering data; providing support to other departments within Gas Operations that utilize documents found in the system of record; assisting in administrative work associated with the technical office activities; work with data analysts to improve data management, and assist in the development of new business practices.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time ofthe job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.The actual hourly rate paid to an individualwill be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications,experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related to these factors.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19.91 to $35.37

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate handling and transfer of Gas Transmission Engineering and Design (GTE&D) station drawings, assisting in miscellaneous customer requests and reviewing submitted record updates.
  • Process drawing check out/in of PDF, DGN & TIFF requests utilizing document management tools.
  • Conducting in-depth analysis of large, complex data sets to uncover meaningful patterns, trends, and insights
  • Support Gas As-Built Program Management. Liaising with external contractors and internal customers.
  • Follow design drafting standards where applicable.
  • Prepares designs, calculations, drawings, interprets data from field inspections, specifications, and/or instructions.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of program-effectiveness plans.
  • Aiding in the development of data governance processes for electronic storage of data.
  • Perform QC techniques as needed.
  • Ensure Safety is a priority for self, team, and the public. Meet all safety requirements.
  • Reports on availability of documents in system of record.
  • Support special projects for other groups within PG&E as necessary.
  • Contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability, and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Currently enrolled full time at a 4-year accredited institution and continuing toward completion of degree at time of internship. Students must be returning back in the fall of 2025 to school.

Desired:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Windows Explorer.
  • Understanding of natural gas operations, maintenance, engineering, design, or construction activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Software experience in the following: AutoCAD
  • Prior experience using ProjectWise.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze business requirements, engineering data, or data management processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction.
