MaineHealth is currently hiring for positions in their Patient Access Department at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. These roles would support both the Emergency Department and the Admitting Department. Various shifts and schedules are available to qualified applicants. We have full-time, part-time and per diem openings available for days, nights and weekends.

MaineHealth's Patient Access Apprentice roles are the first step of a three-tiered career path within Patient Access. We also provide shift differentials, unique committed shift bonuses, and aggressive sign on bonuses.

We are currently offering up to a $3,000 sign on bonus!

  • Current MaineHealth employees not eligible for the sign on bonus. Former Team Members must be separated from MaineHealth system greater than 3 months to be eligible.
  • Bonus amount prorated for Part time hires, per diem are ineligible.

Summary:

The Apprentice - Patient Access role is the entry role for Patient Access and schedules, pre-registers, registers and admits patients to the hospital. Serves as the first contact for many patients. Must convey a caring and professional attitude for all patients and visitors. Determines insurance coverage, eligibility and performs required pre-authorization procedures. Maintains patient care unit control for all bedded units. Provides comprehensive financial counseling and assistance. Establishes and monitors each patient's account prior to their visit, during inpatient stays, and up to 5 days post discharge. Ensures the accuracy of the patient's unique identification number and the demographic and financial information use to create an electronic bill. Informs patient of estimated financial responsibilities and collects up-front payments and Co-payments based on the estimate.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Previous clerical healthcare and customer service experience preferred.
