Senior Metrologist / Research Scientist- Temporary Duration
ADNET seeks to hire a Senior Research Scientist to support the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) Project as Subject Matter Expert to lead the collaboration with the Models, In situ, and Remote sensing of Aerosols (MIRA) international working group at NASA Langley Research Center. MIRA is a forum that fosters international collaborations amongst the aerosol Modeling, In situ, and Remote sensing specialties.
This is a short-term full-time position currently funded utill September 30, 2025, supporting CALIPSO and MIRA in Hampton, Virginia as part of the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract. Responsibilities: - Subject matter engagement with the MIRA scientific community to organize webinars, scientific meetings/workshops and newsletters with emphasis on the application of lidar as an important element to the working group - Organize and participation in the MIRA workshop in Athens, Greece in June 2025. The relatively short period for planning and organizing the workshop requires an individual with established connections to community. - Subject area expertise requires knowledge and experience in aerosol lidar remote sensing and application of aerosol remote sensing and in situ aerosol observations towards a refinement of aerosol optical lookup tables for general circulation and weather models. - Support the evaluation of the CALIPSO Version 5 Level 2 data products that utilize a new climatology of marine and dusty marine aerosol lidar ratios. - Occasional travel to support meetings and conferences within the US or international locations. Requirements: - PhD in Physical Sciences (Physics, Meteorology). - 15+ years of professional experience in scientific analysis of Aerosols. - Experience in scientific programming/ data processing with Python, IDL, MATLAB or other programming languages. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Must be a US person (Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident) with ability to obtain public trust background clearance for work at a Federal Facility. |
