Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive previous experience in Employee Relations preferred.
Position Summary
The Auxiliary Services HR Manager for Employee Relations will oversee and provide support for any and all employee relations matters across all Division operating units. This may include, but would not be limited to: EOO matters, department employee relations, legal compliance, Worker's Comp, FMLA, Leave without Pay, and ADA accommodations. The position will supervise and develop subordinate human resources staff (when present) and be responsible for ensuring that the personnel actions and activities are compliant with relevant Federal, State, and University policies and support the institutions equal opportunity and diversity goals. The individual will develop a team of HR professionals to help support the division's employee relations and development needs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with a wide range of people in a diverse environment; communicate in front of groups. Knowledge of employment law. Able to sustain attention to detail while handling multiple tasks; organizational skills; analyze and solve problems.


  • Working knowledge of HR policies and procedures in addition to University-specific policies and procedures. Ability to communicate and implement Human Resources policies and procedures related to both University policy and state and federal law. Experience in Human Resources management, to include employee conflict resolution, retention, training and ongoing development.
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment; flexibility to work in multiple locations; customer service focused. Ability to effectively supervise the work of others.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel and Word, email, and internet browsers; willingness to learn new applications.

Employee Relations:

  • Serves as internal consultant for facilitating workplace inquiries/concerns within the division, working in conjunction with (centralized) University HR Workforce Engagement, EOO, Legal Affairs, and other offices as necessary to ensure issues are resolved. This includes, but is not limited to: supervisor/subordinate and peer to peer relationships, progressive discipline process; provides feedback and interpretation of policy/process/procedures.
  • Oversee and participate in employee conduct investigations independently and in partnership with applicable central offices.
  • Primary (division) contact regarding ADA and FMLA inquiries, Workers Comp incident reports, and assists staff with ADA, FMLA paperwork to ensure proper filing. Work with supervisors on return to work program for employees presenting work restrictions.
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation tracking each employee's progress, policy violations, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Confer with management to develop and/or implement personnel-related procedures for the division.
  • Ensure files follow the USG record retention policies.
  • Follow-up with management when documentation or files may be incomplete and ensure records are up to date.

Retention:

  • Coordinate retention efforts for Auxiliary Services units.
  • Facilitate the exit process for departures whether voluntary or involuntary.
  • Conduct exit interviews and collect appropriate data that will help to identify retention issues.
  • Propose solutions to management when retention issues arise as to how they may be addressed.
  • Provide reports to supervisors to assist them in enhancing retention.
  • Create opportunities for employee engagement, including but not limited to: thoughtful communications to explain company actions, engagement surveys, and systematic programming aimed at employee engagement.
  • Develop and implement key metrics around retention for easy analysis and reporting.
