We are seeking a Quality Inspector to join our federal team at our York, PA location in support of Navy Systems.Qualify in and perform the following non-destructive examination, procedure: dye penetrant tests and magnetic particle test. Quality in and perform setups, programming and operation of the coordinate measuring machine. Adjust, calibrate, certify and date instruments. Check, audit, measure, record, repair and calibrate precision gauges, measuring devices, including inspection of any special parts, jigs, fixtures, dies, assemblies and tools. Investigate a wide variety of assignments, such as tooling, fixtures, production operations, government coded and regulated packaging and shipping operations, instrument calibration and repair and receiving operations.
We're keeping the Navy cool. Literally. Our team at the York (Grantley) Plant custom designs, develops and manufactures complex chilled water HVAC and refrigeration equipment for Navy vessels around the world. The job consists of performing duties required to plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, fit, braze tubing, thread, weld complex piping, system components and weld coded, and noncoded pressure vessel assemblies and subassemblies, working with ferrous, nonferrous metals, using conventional or automatic submerged arc welding and difficult positions of stick, tig, and manual arc welding of Navy equipment.

- Qualify in and perform the following non-destructive examination, procedure: dye penetrant tests and magnetic particle test.
- Quality in and perform setups, programming and operation of the coordinate measuring machine. Adjust, calibrate, certify and date instruments.
- Check, audit, measure, record, repair and calibrate precision gauges, measuring devices, including inspection of any special parts, jigs, fixtures, dies, assemblies and tools.
- Investigate a wide variety of assignments, such as tooling, fixtures, production operations, government coded and regulated packaging and shipping operations, instrument calibration and repair and receiving operations.
- Audit and verify by performing checks and tests as necessary on startup procedures, detect malfunctions, oil filter and oil levels.
- Communicate back to the party being audited, the findings of the audit. Proving out of new and proved operations.
- Make surface plate, and optical comparator setups and hardness tests.
- Use related precision measuring tooling, gauges, test equipment, and appropriate material handling equipment.
- Maintain surveillance over machines, audit the checking of parts for machining and other related operations.
- Make audit checks of castings, gears, cleanliness, dryness, hardness and appearance.
- Follow non-confirming material procedure, make recommendations, and calculations.
- Maintain records, prepare purchase order requisitions for approval by supervision. Identify key characteristics that require operator verification.
- Generate documents to be used by operators to verify/assist improvements (example total quality check sheet).
- Develop continuous improvement efforts by guiding cross-functional problem-solving teams and by implementing, training and auditing statistical process control (SPC).
Required Qualifications:
- Investigate assignments such as tooling, fixtures, production operations, repair, receiving operations, parts of units in various stages of assembly to insure requirements, and a make nondestructive test.
- Considerable judgment to setup sequence of nondestructive test limitations, to plan, perform unusual and difficult work where only general operation methods are available.
- Moderate physical effort working continuously with light weight, or frequently with average weight materials while repairing, gauging, inspecting, auditing parts assemblies and tooling.
- Concentrated mental, visual attention required where work is to make dimensional checks, surface plate, optical comparator setups and visual attention when inspecting complex work with very close limits of high accuracy and quality.
- Analytical ability relative to Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Normal safety precautions necessary to prevent injury to others, accidents should they occur would be lost time in nature.
- Good working conditions with exposure to shop noises, fumes, dirt but not to the extent of being objectionable.
- Exposure to lost time accidents where injuries would be severe, such as hand, foot, ear, eye injury when in the vicinity of material handling operations.
- Use shop mathematics. Work from prints, tables, charts, codes, regulations and specifications. Use a variety of precision measuring devices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Over 3 - 4 years of industry (Manufacturing) experience.
Preferred Education:
- Knowledge of shop practices, machine operation, assembly methods and inspection methods and procedures.
- Equivalent to training received in a formal registered apprenticeship program.
