Laboratory Associate

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs, oversees and/or facilitates administrative projects related to Bryan Medical Center Laboratory services. Prepares and maintains project plans, tracks project progress and prepares reports for project stakeholders. Reviews project requirements, identifies interdependencies with internal or external departments or service providers, delegates responsibilities and ensures work completion. Schedules cross-functional meetings as needed to facilitate collaboration. Maintains project-related documentation.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Works with managers to complete process improvement activities (i.e. performs quality monitoring and data gathering, designs and manages workflow processes, researches regulations, and develops staff orientation and training tools).

3. *Works with managers and Client Operations Coordinators to identify ways to streamline required processes for continued accreditation of the Laboratory.

4. *Routinely assists with updating charging processes to meet Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) and corporate compliance requirements.

5. *Manages the Clinical Laboratory's non-patient billing and related issues, including reconciliation, data preparation and reporting. Works with clients to resolve any billing issues. Works queue responsibilities include daily high dollar work queue, critical errors for lab charges, exposure work queue and missing pricing work queue.

6. *Works collaboratively with Finance to request, review and analyze reports and information. Reviews laboratory invoices and codes for payment. Maintains complex documents and spreadsheets for department's administrative and budgetary needs.

7. *Collects and prepares data as requested for special projects, collaborates with stakeholders and provides project plans and reports as needed. Leads the Laboratory Workgroup subcommittee of Clinical Advisory Team for IT, prepares agenda, minutes and follows up with attendees as necessary.

8. *Assists with updating and maintaining the charge masters for Clinical Laboratory.

9. *Works with Managers to follow up on training needs for department staff.

10. *Assists the Client Operations Coordinator in marketing projects for the Laboratory department. Serves as point of contact with internal departments and external vendor representatives.

11. *Maintains the Clinical Laboratory incident reports review and response completion; ensures appropriate follow up in a timely manner, reviews and routes to the appropriate leader for final review.

12. Works collaboratively with the Laboratory Leadership and Client Operations Coordinator on special projects to improve patient/physician satisfaction and workflow processes.

13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of coding processes for laboratory procedures.

2. Knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures and billing protocols.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Skill in identifying and utilizing computer applications that can improve workflow and /or output.

5. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision to meet expected deadlines.

6. Ability to analyze problems, identify needs and priorities and implement effective work strategies.

7. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

9. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work as a team member.

10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff.

11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum three (3) years' experience in a laboratory environment required. Prior supervisory or project management experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
