Overview Job Description: Life Cycle Engineering is seeking a highly motivated engineer with maintenance, test, and/or modernization related experience to support execution of Sustainment initiatives for VIRGINIA Class Programs. You will be working with the VIRGINIA Sustainment Engineering team to advise submarine concept designs as they are developed in the Teamcenter 3D model. Your experience will be applied to influence designs in order to maximize the operational availability goals of the platform, and reduce total ownership costs to the NAVY during all levels of maintenance. As a new member of the Design-Build-Sustain (DBS) team, you will interface with all design and engineering disciplines, shipyard operations personnel, and advocate for downstream maintenance stakeholders. This process establishes a feedback loop between the frontline maintainers and the design agent where lessons learned are shared and implemented. In this capacity the candidate will be expected to be the voice of post-delivery maintenance and overhaul considerations, while striving to reach consensus and balance requirements amongst the DBS teams. Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for execution of projects supporting current and future VIRGINIA Class design efforts including VA SSW, Blocks VI-VIII, and early SSN(x) concept development. This includes the evaluation of ship systems and component designs for maintenance and accessibility, reliability, facilitating lifting and handling needs, as well as life cycle cost analysis to support relevant trade studies. Routine interaction with design, engineering, program management, Naval Facilities, Public Shipyards, and NAVSEA is required. A successful candidate will be expected to act as a change agent for promoting best design practices that reduce in-port maintenance periods and increase the operational time at sea. Qualifications Required
Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering
