Overview

The crane operator controls a rough terrain 50 to 120 ton crane performing staging, rigging, and erection of structural steel and pre-engineered building systems for heavy/highway construction projects. The crane operator calculates crane capabilities and weights in order to perform safe load hosting operations and will interpret and follow all hand signals presented by crew members working on the ground and on the existing highway structures. The crane operator utilizes hand and foot levers to accurately operate instrument and control panels. The crane operator will work together with other tradesmen to achieve results per plans and specifications while following instructions to meet the standards of the project. Duties include correctly completed daily and weekly inspection and maintenance reports including hazard assessments. The operator will travel frequently in order to accommodate various project work schedules. The position is safety sensitive.



Responsibilities

    Complete all required safety training as scheduled and participate in all project TBT and safety meetings
  • Maintain current NCOO Certification
  • Perform pre and post shift inspections of assigned equipment and complete required logs/reports
  • Complete load hoisting in a manner that prevents accidents in accordance with company safety programs
  • Safely operate a rough terrain crane weighing up to 120 tons
  • Perform staging, rigging, and erection of structural steel, concrete structures forms and pre-engineered concrete structures including storm drain and sewer/water lines
  • Understand load rigging procedures and determine the amount of material that can be safely hoisted in each load
  • Must have the ability to judge spaces correctly and handle many controls at the same time
  • Ensure that the crane is level before lifting, understand the individual crane capacity and determine if weather conditions are safe before performing hoisting or staging operations
  • Respond to all hand signals presented by the other tradesmen and work in coordination with them , obeying the stop signal at all times
  • Inspect, clean, and perform light maintenance and report all equipment malfunctions to supervisor
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment appropriate for the duties performed
  • Willing to work various shifts according to project needs and willing to travel throughout southwestern states


Qualifications

All construction field positions within the company are considered safety sensitive. All candidates for employment must pass a pre-employment drug screen. The work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. The work environment frequently exposes the employee to high levels of noise, and dust that is typically associated with road construction projects. The crane operator will work around operational heavy equipment and moving machinery, often in and around live traffic. The crane operator must be able to climb on and off of equipment safely and will perform various cleaning and light maintenance and upkeep of the assigned equipment. The crane operator must be able to sit and manipulate hand and foot controls constantly over long periods of time. The crane operator will keep in radio and visual contact with the other tradesmen working onsite. The assigned shifts will vary, depending on the needs of the project owner and may include night and weekend shifts. This is a safety sensitive position.
