Job Description

The Import / Export (IMEX) Specialist will detect, and helps prevent, violations of US Customs laws and import / export regulations and manages the duties of the organization and sees to it that the commodities meet the standards of all the destination countries. The specialist is also responsible for carrying out all the legal requirements as per government rules and regulations.

* Maintain control and ensure regulations to all import / export processes and monitor work according to corporate and local policies. Evaluate all new custom requirements and supervise everyday operations according to standard procedures. Update and maintain import / export compliance procedures and documentation.

* Collaborate with various departments and obtain all documents and to ensure compliance to all import / export policies and responsible to coordinate activities associated with the movement of international shipments (track & expedite) with all US Ports and US Customs.

* IMEX team management for daily functions with supervision of all Sealed Air subsidiaries for import / export process and team oversight, resolving teammates work related issues and provide recommendations on how to handle.

* Ensure all items have the required codes in accordance with company policy and procedures in partnership with the appropriate parties for Classification under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN).

* Denied Party Screening responsibilities for vetting all parties to the transaction and maintaining proof of screenings completed via the Vestera software tool with management of the restricted party screening process and reporting to the Legal team for business review.

* Provides support and guidance to the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) partnership with US Customs and upper management business units to ensure customs compliance in the company's international trade activities. This position also provides extensive training and will be the primary liaison between US supply plants, carriers, brokers, vendors and/or all parties responsible for moving international shipments for Sealed Air.

* Set expectations with internal customers and to provide expertise in shipment movement and regulatory compliance requests, information, training, and research.

* Manage all aspects of customs and trade with multiple locations globally with supervision of the Incoterms. Work with cross-functional teams at multiple locations to drive improved processes, compliance and productivity.

* General Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) responsibilities to provide value-added interpretation and assisting brokerage in completing regulatory validation and submittal of documentation requirements for Sealed Air products.

* Review process improvement to business and organization for evaluating, planning, and implementing improvements in business processes and practices. Other aspects to include team building and group facilitation, compiling and tracking data, and preparing training materials related to compliance rules and regulations. Will collaborate with leaders and cross-functional teams on key process improvement initiatives that contribute to the company's overall strategic plan and drives a culture of continuous improvement.

* Develop and create monthly performance metric reports to address compliance and/or company needs for freight forwarders, brokers, internal departments, etc.

* Maintain excellent working relationships with all service providers.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Import / Export / Cross-Border processes and compliance to US Customs regulations required and prior experience interfacing with international companies
  • Working in international trade and with US Customs for minimum 10 years with knowledge of Import / Export regulations and related experience
  • Experience in brokerage management and freight forwarding operations for minimum 10 years
  • Prior hands-on experience using Microsoft products Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word with SAP ERP experience
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Must be resourceful, flexible, organized, detail-oriented, and a strong team orientation essential.
  • Strong ability to be a self-starter and work without supervision and demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to travel occasionally
