Primary Purpose of Position
The Extension Program Assistant/Associate has the responsibility of supporting the 4-H Agent in creating a well-rounded 4-H program in Guilford County.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with 4-H Club administration/activities, school enrichment programs, and county, district, and state events when needed.


  • Delivering programs that meet the needs of the county's youth from ages 5-19, following the mission and priorities established by the National 4-H Council and in alignment with the mission and vision of NC Cooperative Extension.
The Program Assistant/Associate will assist in planning and conducting county 4-H summer programs in partnership with the 4-H Agent. The Program Assistant/Associate will assist with community 4-H outreach programs and 4-H/Extension special events.

This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 40-hour per week position, and is 100% county-
funded.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The person in this position will work directly with youth and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of youth development programs throughout Guilford County.
The person in this position will have responsibility for preparing documents and materials for community presentations, youth development programs, and advisory council functions.
The person in this position will work with other members of the Guilford Extension team to plan and implement cross-program events and initiatives.

The Extension Program Assistant/Associate receives direct supervision from the County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development.

Travel within the county is required; district and state travel, including some overnight travel, is required occasionally. Travel is reimbursed following state guidelines.

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8 - 5 business hours, with some night and/or weekend events to support the 4-H Programs. This position is a 40-hours per week position.
Minimum Experience/Education
The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension ( NCCE) is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Advanced training in related fields is preferred.
Department Required Skills
Computer literacy including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is expected.

Candidates should have excellent time and resource management skills, should be personable, and be able to build networking coalitions.

Candidates must have experience in working with various youth audiences.

Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and be able to handle multiple tasks and establish priorities.

Candidates must recognize the importance of teamwork and fully support the total Extension program.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
We prefer that the applicant have a minimum of an Associate's Degree in education, child or youth development, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, and/or agricultural education. Prefer prior experience working with children in a career or volunteer capacity.
Required License or Certification
Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation is required and must be maintained.
