The Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking motivated applicants to fill a Research Professional I position in the laboratory of Dr. Madenci. The selected applicant will participate in a research effort concerning the coupling of the peridynamic theory with the finite element method. We are seeking a well-rounded, motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience performing research in a laboratory setting. This individual should be detailed-oriented, conscientious, able to follow instructions and incorporate feedback, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Under supervision, assist with developing, planning, and conducting advanced multi-disciplinary research.
- Contribute in integrating peridynamics into commercial software to investigate damage initiation and growth due to high velocity impact.
- Contribute in formulating research methods, and developing/collaborating in the development of new techniques, methods, and equipment.
- Maintain clear, detailed laboratory notebooks with experimental procedures, calculations, and data.
- Under supervision, assist with investigating the failure and reliability of solder joints in electronic packages using the peridynamic theory.
- Facilitate communication with collaborators and core facilities outside of the department and college.
- Assist with and contribute to deriving, analyzing, and formatting data for publications, presentations, and grant proposals.
- Contribute in research funding and grant proposal preparations as needed.
- Present research findings to the laboratory at department meetings.
- Assist in training laboratory personnel as appropriate.
- Assist with familiarizing laboratory staff in research techniques.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong ability in the development of numerical methods and associated mathematical analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work well with others.
- Basic computer skills: MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- 1 year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study.
- Experience in the analysis of composite materials by using the peridynamics and the strain gradient theory.
- Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
