Position Highlights |
The College of Veterinary Medicine, at University of Arizona, is seeking a Research Technician II. This individual will be responsible for conducting cognitive and behavioral studies with domestic dogs (puppies through adults) and assisting with behavioral coding and data management resulting from these studies. All research will occur on-site in Santa Rosa, California in Canine Companions' population of assistance dogs. The research technician will also assist with laboratory inventory and purchasing, record keeping, research protocols (IACUC), biobanking, and scheduling of research activities. Duties & Responsibilities |
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with in-person sampling/data collection within a population of assistance dogs, which often entails but is not limited to: administration of the Dog Cognitive Development battery and other behavioral tests in domestic dogs, actigraphy data, biological samples (stool, urine, saliva), video recordings, and survey data
- Data management, including experimental measures and survey responses (organization of research videos, preparation of documents for data collection, data checking and organization for analysis)
- Research logistics including ordering of supplies, schedule coordination, protocol updates, and record keeping
- Maintenance and organization of biological samples
- Behavioral scoring of research videos
- Additional duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of dog behavior and ability to work effectively with domestic dogs
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, and planning skills
- Attention to detail and ability to implement research protocols with high precision
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to conduct behavioral testing, which is physically intensive and requires long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, spending time on the floor, and physically manipulating dogs weighing up to 80lbs and lifting puppies weighing up to 15 lbs

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required, AND
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
|
Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to animal behavior, psychology, biology, or veterinary/animal science.
