Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking a Research Technologist I to work in the Department of Internal Medicine. The Research Technologist I will work with biobank lab team, and will be expected to perform skilled procedures, tests and analyses. A successful candidate will demonstrate their aptitude for scientific processes and previous training in Biological Sciences experiments.
The Research Technologist I will be expected to perform basic laboratory skills, process blood and other fluid/solid samples, culture cells collect/process tissues as needed for storage in biobank or biochemical or histological analysis. This position will also assist in clinical trial processing, running assays and other biobank duties as needed. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Processing of clinical samples from human specimens for biobanking, isolation of cells, protein and nucleic acids or other assays on the samples. Processing tissue samples.
- Assist to perform flow cytometry or other assays on human samples as needed.
- Processing samples from clinical trials internal and external contracts.
- After training, assists in the management and operation of scientific equipment
- Perform all work associated with update of all databases, documentation and shipping relevant to sample processing.
- Maintenance of supply inventory, placing order, keeping up to date all supplies in the lab.
- Maintenance of general cell culture following sterile technique and cell-based assays.
- Assists in the development, revision and annual review of all written standard operating procedures and performs
quality control checks to ensure procedures are followed. - Assists in annual quality control testing associated with biorepository work. Assist with validation work as needed.
- Assist to operate, calibrate and conduct performance checks on highly complex and integrated laboratory equipment.
- Under supervision, assists in judging the validity of data obtained from experiments; data analysis following established protocols.
- Coordinates and/or conducts library and computer searches for research data, some of which may include specialized archival research.
- Assist in operation and maintenance of laboratory and experimental equipment with direct supervision, such as freezers, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, incubators, biosafety hood and analytical balances etc.
- Assist in annual calibration of lab equipment's through vendors or as needed.
- Under direct supervision performs experiments and collates data , presenting findings in lab meetings.
- Assist to define and refine the appropriate procedures related to scientific inquiry and the collection of scientific data.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basic laboratory techniques.
- Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications |
* Bachelor of Science degree - Biology or Immunology.
* Two (2) or more years of blood and tissue processing in a biobank
* Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based searches and platforms. |
