Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Business Officer is responsible for:
- Overseeing all routine financial activity across the college including purchasing, travel, payroll, receipting, receivables, and budget revisions and ensuring all financial transactions are completed timely, accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable policies and standards.
- Analyzing budgets and financial data across CHHSA and preparing related reports
- Assisting the Assistant Dean with complex financial matters such as multi-year budget planning, development of funding models, financial reporting for accreditation, and capital funding
- Working with the Assistant Dean to develop business administration standards for the college that comply with applicable University and external policies and guidelines while meeting the unique needs of the college
- Completing reconciliations for financial activity across multiple funding sources
- Manages AA recruitment and hiring processes.
- Manages all pay actions (FLAC/EPAF/HR3.35).
- Manages HR paperwork, employee budgets, adjustments, and position control.
- Provides departmental support to academic department admins and fills-in as needed when vacancies occur.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related business area and two years of administration management or business management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
Preferred Candidates will have at least three years of work experience in the following areas:
- Knowledge of Ellucian Banner (both Self Service and Internet Native versions) or demonstrated experience on a similar scale ERP system with an ability to quickly and effectively learn Banner.
- Experience using SSRS reporting environments or a demonstrated experience with similar SQL-based reporting environments.
- Knowledge of UNCW, UNC system financial and personnel policies and practices, or a demonstrated experience in a complex university environment.
- Advanced experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.

The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts offers a variety of programs in the liberal arts leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and filmmaking, and Master of Public Administration. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in Spanish and English. To implement these programs, the college provides instruction, research, and creative opportunities in the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts.
The 15 academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in Africana studies; American studies; Asian studies; classical studies; European studies; forensic science; journalism; Latin American studies; medical humanities; Middle East and Islamic studies; Native American studies; and women and gender studies. The college houses the Gender Studies and Research Center, an interdisciplinary and intersectional community of students, scholars, and advocates committed to social justice and equity.
Undergraduate certificates for professional writing and publishing, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates in conflict management and resolution, emergency and disaster management, forensic science, science and medical writing, women's, gender, and sexuality studies, Hispanic studies, and a post-master's certificate in liberal studies, are also offered.
