Campus Enterprises is NC State University's division of retail and hospitality organizations - NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.
NC State Dining provides campus wide food services to students, staff, and faculty on the North Carolina State University Campus. NC State Dining operates 11 cafes, 3 food courts and 6 dining halls, 3 markets, 2 restaurants, vending, a nutritional counseling service, and a catering department. The department employs approximately 1000 temporary and student employees and approximately 165 permanent

Essential Job Duties |
The Business Officer is responsible for administering and managing the multifaceted business and financial affairs for NC State Dining. Generating over $60 million in annual revenue, our dynamic department is seeking a skilled professional to oversee its business and financial affairs. In this role, you'll analyze data, manage budgets, and support strategic decision-making, contributing directly to the success of a campus dining program that impacts thousands daily.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Financial Management
- Analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources (e.g., timekeeping, sales mix, earned revenue, cost of goods sold, and scheduling data)to produce insightful financial reports and dashboards.
- Decipher, and disseminate complex accounting data from university financial reporting system (WRS) and related systems across all 40 individual units and multiple revenue sources for Dining and CE senior leadership's review. Advise Dining leadership on operational and financial opportunities/deficiencies based on previous operating experience and findings.
- Prepare statements and reports using advanced software (i.e. Excel, PowerBI, Smartsheet, etc.) to collect, organize, and compile financial and statistical data, including specialized visualizations and dashboards for NC State Dining.
- Lead internal departmental annual operating and capital investment budget planning and forecasting processes.
- Lead regular financial review meetings with Dining directors and functional area/unit managers to monitor unit-level financial performance and discuss strategies to achieve financial targets.
- Assess current trends and utilize departmental and industry knowledge to develop pro forma statements that forecast financial performance.
- Partner with CE budget analyst in enhancing existing budget and financial tools for use by Dining and other CE units.
Business Administration
- Oversee daily and long-term operational needs, including contracts, permits, and compliance.
- Serve as the department's Pack Ready Planner, leading the organization's Pack Ready Plan development and maintenance.
- Manage relationships and business processes that span multiple administrative departments within Campus Enterprises and University divisions such as Purchasing, Transportation, Public Safety, etc.
- File all Wake County inspections of locations.
- Maintain Wake County permits, process ABC permits and insurance.
- Coordinate food truck program, including scheduling, billing approvals and customer service and collaborate with the division's marketing department for promotion of events.
- Assist with procurement, management and maintenance of the dining vehicle fleet, including administration of the university's risk insurance system and transport of vehicles for repair and service.
- Manage departmental file systems, calendars including hours of operation and calendar of events, and administrative office maintenance.
- Support procurement processes and purchasing compliance.
Data Analysis & Decision-Making
- Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data to identify trends and inform strategic decisions.
- Provide recommendations to resolve financial, operational, and business challenges.
- Maintain scheduling software systems, recommend process improvements, and train stakeholders.
- Review, verify and analyze dynamic and multifaceted accounting data in university's financial reporting system (WRS) to identify variances and anomalies and make sound business recommendations based on findings.
- Review retail pricing for cost effectiveness and value perception and make recommendations based on findings.
Human Resources Management
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and onboarding processes for dining employees and update the Dining Handbook
- Supervise administrative staff and student workers, including performance reviews and guidance.
- Collect, analyze and interpret HR and employee data to inform Dining employment strategies and processes.
- Coordinate compliance training, certifications, and employee travel arrangements.
Communication & Collaboration
- Lead financial review meetings and facilitate departmental communication and facilitate bi-weekly director meetings and large staff meetings in the director's absence and create agendas and minutes of meetings
- Prepare and deliver professional reports, presentations, and documentation for various audiences.
- Act as a key liaison between Dining and university departments, vendors, and community partners.
- Manage the NC State Dining multi-line phone and email accounts, providing clear and accurate responses to public inquiries regarding dining policies and procedures and respond
- to inquiries and concerns, ensuring excellent customer service.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Familiarity with budgeting processes, including managing multi-layered budgets.
- Analyze financial data and trends, operational challenges and opportunities to provide strategic advice. Synthesize and communicate complex information clearly across multiple technology platforms.
- Identify and anticipate financial and accounting issues and develop appropriate strategies for resolution.
- Superior communication skills to actively listen to the needs of the customer, provide accurate responses, and adjust communication style to ensure understanding by the customer.
- Translate and communicate complex financial analysis for understanding to multiple levels of employees within the university and by non-financial experts.
- Previous supervisory experience, including directly related experience with the entire employee life cycle.
- Able to build professional relationships internally and externally, and be a productive team member and collaborative campus partner.
- Excellent organizational skills in order to work independently and lead projects to timely and successful completion.
- Excellent experience in Google Suite (Email, Docs, Calendar, Sheets and Slides) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), with the ability to learn additional software.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous work experience in an auxiliary enterprise and hospitality organization.
- Knowledge of purchasing, contract administration, accounting, and human resources policies, operating procedures, and/or best practices.
- Experience with financial management systems, operational data systems and software (such as PeopleSoft, Wolfpack Reporting System, Micros, Grubhub, CBORD, CSGold, Eventmaster, and/or 7Shifts).
- Advanced proficiency with Excel, to include creation of data models and use of PowerQuery (or M) to transform and load data from various data sources (including dashboards, pivot tables, etc.).
- Knowledge of best practices in data analysis and data structures.
