Essential Job Duties |
Are you an International Student & Scholar Advisor looking for the next step in your career? In this role, you'll sharpen your advising skills working with a large F-1 student and J-1 student and scholar population while gaining technical skills working with third-party
SEVIS reporting software. Our level II advisors work closely with multiple academic departments and make a real impact through our liaison model. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor and guide newer advisors, helping them grow while contributing to training and development efforts. If you're passionate about supporting international students and scholars, we'd love to have you bring your expertise and leadership to our team.
International Student and Scholar Services:
- Independently manage international student and scholar advising, supporting special populations (e.g., sponsored students, study abroad exchange participants, Intensive English Program students, J-1 Student Interns).
- Process I-20 visa certificates for principals and their dependents, program extensions, changes in status, employment requests and reporting, travel, and reinstatements for F & J students.
- Handle DS-2019 issuance, program extensions, and amendments for international students and scholars.
- Advise faculty, department personnel, and staff on international student and scholar eligibility, immigration issues, and opportunities.
- Serve as a liaison for specific college populations, ensuring compliance with academic policies and immigration regulations.
- Stay up-to-date on regulatory changes from USCIS, SEVP, ICE, DOS, and other agencies affecting international students and scholars.
- Participate in weekly drop-in advising and scholar check-ins as part of the advising rotation.

Other Responsibilities |
In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there may be occasional opportunities to take on additional duties, as directed by the Associate Director. This offers an opportunity to build on your skills, explore new areas, and gain a deeper understanding of the department's operations.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Assist with organizing and supporting recurring and special programs (e.g., orientation, workshops, receptions) and actively participate in OIS staff meetings, policy discussions, and professional functions.
- Prepare and present training sessions for students, scholars, and university staff; help maintain and update the OIS Advisor Manual, Policies and Procedures database, and website content.
- Stay current on regulatory matters through ongoing technical training (e.g., NAFSA, NCAIE) and provide support for OIS front desk tasks and other assigned projects.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications |
- At least one year of experience as an international student or scholar advisor
- Prior ARO/DSO advising experience
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and advise on F-1 and J-1 regulations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to provide clear, correct, and respectful communications in a timely manner
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and ability to multi-task with accuracy and efficiency in a busy, time-sensitive environment with multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Must be able to work independently and on a team with others.
- Experience with Google Apps Suite or Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in International Studies, Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Foreign Language, Communications, or related field
- Experience with a third-party software system for SEVIS reporting such as Sunapsis, Terra Dotta, ISSM, etc.
- Familiarity with WordPress
- Prior experience living or studying abroad
