Description The Director of Leadership and Board Engagement will collaborate closely with the Leadership team of the Children's National Hospital Foundation (CNHF) and the President and CEO's team at Children's National Hospital (CNH). This role involves stewarding and strategically managing relationships with Foundation Board members, major donors, and key volunteers. The Director will lead a team to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to enhance board engagement through increased philanthropic gifts, prospect cultivation, and referrals to the donor pipeline. Working in coordination with gift officers, this individual will manage donors and prospects identified by the President and CEO of CNH and Board members. Reporting to the CNHF Vice President, the Director will collaborate with senior staff across the organization.

In partnership with the President's Office and Foundation staff, the Director will oversee the planning and execution of CNHF Board and Executive Committee meetings. They will develop and manage a plan to measure the effectiveness of board-related activities and initiatives, identifying new engagement opportunities for board members and their prospects. The Director will also oversee board training and development projects and ensure timely strategic communications with the Chairs of the Foundation Board and CNH Board on Foundation matters.

Additionally, the Director will co-create and manage the President & CEO's Foundation engagement plan, updating it annually. They will oversee the President's calendar for Foundation-related activities and track the development and status of CEO correspondence with board members, donors, and key volunteers.
The Director will also manage the planning and execution of meetings and engagement activities for the Corporate Advisory Council and Founders Auxiliary Board. Serving as a strategic staff partner for other Foundation-managed volunteer groups, the Director will drive cross-team collaboration within the Foundation and across the institution. They will ensure effective and thoughtful cultivation and stewardship of key donors and prospects, develop and implement a philanthropic engagement plan for the Institution's leadership, and manage a committee on philanthropic priorities and prospective donor identification.
Qualifications Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Communications or related field (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
10 years Progressively responsible experience related to identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Well developed skill set and experience prioritizing, focusing and executing strategic fundraising plans.
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills, an ability to represent the organization and interface with all levels of staff, faculty, volunteers and donors while maintaining tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
Candidates must have ability to anticipate ever changing needs and priorities, have the stamina to multitask with accuracy under pressure, exercise good judgement, show initiative, and work independently as well as in a team environment.
Proficient in Microsoft applications and database systems.
Certification or speciality in nonprofit management

Functional Accountabilities
Vision & Strategy
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President and CNHF President, develop and manage a comprehensive board engagement program to increase prospect referral and donors to the Foundation's pipeline.
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President and CNHF President, will create and oversee the President & CEO's annual fundraising plan.
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President and CNHF President, will create and oversee a philanthropic engagement plan for the Institution's leadership.
Project Management
  • Manage donors and prospects assigned to and identified by the President and CEO and Board members.
  • Manage President's calendar and strategic role in regard to these priority projects, coordinating with Foundation Leadership Team.
  • Project manage, synthesize and prioritize all activities related to these donors.
Plan and Execute
  • Develop strategy for special donor events and visits including lunches, dinners, and tours.
  • Provide strategic and logistical leadership for Board related activities.
  • Provide strategic and logistical leadership for President & CEO cultivation and stewardship events.
  • Develop and oversee metrics for board and leadership engagement.
  • Staff board and leadership as assigned.
  • Provide strategic direction on implementation of CEO salon dinners.
Collaborate
  • Responsible for the creation, in collaboration with appropriate Foundation staff, of all briefings for the President and CEO, Leadership Council and Board members for events and donor meetings.
  • In collaboration with Foundation staff, ensure Foundation leadership team is properly briefed on all leadership donor activities.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Corporate Governance & Strategic Engagement ensure Board members are well-informed for Foundation related activities and expectations.
  • Develop and staff ad hoc committees.
