Description

The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for the management and operation of Environmental Services to maintain a clean and safe medical center environment. Responsibilities include general resource allocation and communication, maintain optimum staffing levels, supervise management, overall utilization of assigned personnel, and provide oversight in hiring, orientation, training, discipline and dismissal of employees. This position includes interpretation and administration of all applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, including JCAHO, state, and federal and local regulations and guidelines (i.e. OSHA, HAZMAT, DOH, EPA).


Qualifications

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Business Management or other health-related field (Required)

Relevant experience beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a 1-to-1 ratio (i.e. one year of relevant work experience equals one year of required education)
HAZMAT trained (preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
3 years Healthcare experience (Required)

Acute care experience (Required)
2 years management/supervisory experience (Required)

Children's hospital experience (preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of all applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, including JCAHO, state, and federal and local regulations and guidelines (i.e. OSHA, HAZMAT, DOH, EPA).
Understanding of infection control.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP).

Functional Accountabilities
Strategic Planning



  • Contribute to the strategic plan for department services, include short-term and long-term objectives.


  • Collect and analyze customer feedback and evaluates service/department effectiveness.


Program Administration



  • Implement strategic plan through management of day-to-day operations of department, division or service area.


  • Collaborate with upper management to evaluate current as well as new program initiatives for effectiveness, feasibility and cost.


  • Ensure compliance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, and regulatory standards.


  • Proficient to compile and analyze data to support upper management decision-making.


Operations



  • Oversee the training, education, scheduling of personnel, duties and scope of services for the areas of responsibility.


  • Operate and manage under the guidelines of the Hospital's policies and procedures and is versed in State Regulatory Compliance, i.e. Joint Commission, DOH, OSHA and EP A Waste Handling.


  • Perform QA/QI Inspections per departmental guidelines; collect and analyze customer feedback and evaluate service/department


  • effectiveness.


  • Perform bi-weekly or monthly documented scheduled rounds in Areas of Responsibility.


  • Ensure Safety Guidelines are being followed and inspected routinely via departmental guidelines.


  • Responsible for a Daily Managers Report to be submitted to Director prior to shifts end.


  • Serve as departmental leader on call in rotation with other managers and above in the department.
