DESCRIPTION
This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide public water safety and recreational work by supervising and enforcing regulations at aquatic facilities. The Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of patrons in attendance in an aquatic environment. This protection is both preventive as well as corrective.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Functions:
Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
Prevents accidents and minimizes or eliminates hazardous situations.
Renders First Aid as needed, including administering CPR and using an AED.
Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the assigned facility.
Educates the patrons and informs them of the purpose of and the need for rules and regulations.
Identifies and assists patrons having difficulty.
Responds quickly to all emergency situations in the water and performs water rescues.
Completes all required records and reports on schedule and submits them to the proper person.
Performs periodical chemical checks on the pool water.
Performs various pool maintenance functions such as brushing pool sides, policing pool area, vacuuming pool, etc.
Interacts and communicates with the public and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
Checks and maintains the cleanliness of the locker room, offices, building, and surrounding grounds.
Additional Duties:
Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed typically sitting, standing, and swimming; however, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing up and down lifeguard stand, and lifting equipment and objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds is required on an intermittent basis.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age, with a preferred minimum age of eighteen (18).
Must have physical strength and ability to perform strenuous water rescues, administer CPR and First Aid.
Must have swimming and rescue skills.
Ability to work flexible hours with evening, weekend, and holiday work.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Certification for the below items are offered with employment.
Must possess or be able to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate which includes AED Certification. YMCA equivalent is acceptable.
