The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Carver College of Medicine, at the University of Iowa, is pleased to announce an open post baccalaureate research internship position. Required qualifications: Experience with animal husbandry, providing medication to animals, and animal research involving housing at different temperatures. Experience with the following technical skills related to metabolomics: Structural determination of reaction products using mass spectrometry, NMR, and UV spectroscopy; NADH-based absorbance assays to measure enzyme activities; affinity and gel filtration chromatography. Skills related to data analysis: Familiarity with and basic ability to code in R and MatLab, demonstrated by past work or completion of course work. Basic proficiency with Excel. Broad experience with molecular biology and protein analytical lab techniques, including PCR, microplate assays, E. coli culture, and Western Blots. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong time management skills and ability to coordinate efficient completion of different responsibilities. Desirable qualifications: Experience with model organisms such as drosophila or yeast. Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures. |
