International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS)

Atlanta Campus

The International Student Advisor, Senior, provides in person and virtual student advising related to F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations and University policies and deadlines using compliance software to maintain appropriate documentation, communication, and student support. The advisor works collaboratively with various admissions offices to issue initial attendance and transfer I-20s to newly admitted international students, and helps manage onboarding communication, processes and support for incoming students. The ISA Sr. will utilize Sunapsis immigration compliance software and GSU's Banner system to review student requests, run relevant reports, issue documents, and manage their daily work. The position works as part of the student advising team in ISSS to educate international students on their immigration status and regulations and to assist them in meeting their academic and personal goals.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

* Advising:

o Provide in person student advising related to F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations and University policies and deadlines using compliance software (Sunapsis) to maintain appropriate documentation, communication, and student support.

o Advises students in areas of federal immigration regulations, registration, maintaining status, finances, employment, etc. Remain current on federal immigration changes, access to advising resources, and key governmental, campus, and community contacts.

o Provide resolution to student concerns and problems in absence of the Associate Director and refer issues and unique cases to ISSS leadership.

* Enrollment Management:

o Work collaboratively with various admissions offices to issue initial attendance and transfer I-20s to newly admitted international students.

o Manage the international student orientation software (Homebase) and assist with any other international admissions related initiatives and communications.

* Processing requests:

o Respond to alerts and student requests within ISSS' immigration compliance software (Sunapsis), update eforms as needed, and keep up to date with software functionality to best serve students.

* Collaboration:

o Create and maintain relationships with key campus partner offices (advising, student accounts, registrar, counseling center, etc.) to provide quality referrals as needed.

o Assists with other international offices on campus (International English Program, Office of International Initiatives, etc.) with services, events, and programs in service of the University's internationalization goals.

o Serves on various committees as needed to help increase international student engagement on campus.

o At all times advocate for students in the university and Atlanta community.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Effective organizational skills

* Knowledge of federal immigration regulations

* Knowledge of university policies

* Ability to work with a diverse population

* Knowledge of the surrounding community and available resources
