Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division LeSuer County Social Service and Food Shelf located in Montgomery, MN is "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. Services include food shelf; short-term case management; clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners.

The Social Services and Food Shelf Coordinator oversees food shelf operations, delivers social services, maintains records, responds to inquiries, and supports seasonal events. This role ensures compliance with standards while providing essential resources and fostering community engagement.

$17.65 - $18.63/hour, 20 hours per week

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)



  • Food Shelf Operations (40%): Oversee food shelf operations, including processing and distributing food donations and purchases, while ensuring compliance with cleanliness, health department, and food bank standards.
  • Social Services Delivery (40%): Provide participants with direct assistance, including services such as Heatshare, vouchers, community resources, and referrals.
  • Records and Documentation (10%): Maintain accurate and up-to-date statistics, records, and participant information in case files and through database entry.
  • Information Requests (5%): Respond to information requests, direct calls appropriately, and share information about Pathway of Hope, local activities, and events.
  • Seasonal and Special Events (5%): Provide support for seasonal and special events as needed.



Education and Experience



  • Associate degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in a food shelf, food services, or social services required.
  • Valid driver's license, meet MVR driver's qualifications, and pass background checks.

  • Knowledge of safe food handling.
  • High level of honor in dealing with confidential information.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient with PC, Microsoft Office, and databases.



Working Conditions



  • Prolonged standing or sitting, walking, bending, stooping, turning, stretching, reaching, and lifting.
  • Must be able to regularly move/lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Business casual environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with colleagues and participants.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide guidance, training, and supervision to volunteers.

Driving/Travel Requirements

Regular local driving using a personal vehicle to support the mission of The Salvation Army.
