Position Description Essential Job Tasks: Engineering Support for line crews (Corrective Maintenance): Provide engineering and technical support to the transmission line crews by: - Analyzing structural components strength. - Interpreting the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) on clearance and strength issues. - Analyzing causes of outages, failures or damage to assets and long term trends experienced on the transmission system. Provide solutions to mitigate future failures across the system. - Updating TOA Outage Database with outage cause information. - Ordering replacement parts on damaged equipment. - Effectively Communicate critical issues and recommendations to Unit manager and other team members. Production Projects: - Perform estimates, design functions and manage projects from initiation through completion for various billable, capital, reimbursable and O&M projects including: Targeted Capital Maintenance & Targeted Component Replacement projects, relocations, switch installations and short tap line work. - Coordinates this work between Santee Cooper Personnel, contractors, developers, vendors, other entities and the customer. - Responsible for ensuring all as-built drawings are completed and the TEFIS and LIS systems are updated. - Effectively Communicate Budget Projections, Critical Dates and Project issues, recommendations, Scope and Status to Unit Manager and other team members. Encroachments: Provide engineering review for encroachment department: Review and approve or deny encroachment requests from other utilities, property owners, developers and requests within Santee Cooper. Reliability Projects (Preventative Maintenance): With Minimal Oversight provided to employee: - Analyze line criticality, historic operating cost, outages, failures and risk to identify critical poor performing components, line sections or areas of high risk. - Make recommendations for candidate Targeted Capital Maintenance and Targeted Component Replacement Projects. - Perform Line rating analysis to ensure that field conditions are acceptable for the lines to operate at the appropriate temperature and ampacity indicated by ECC and System Planning's line ratings data base. - Examples of the projects include: economic analyses, corona camera inspection work, infrared inspection work, managing the maintenance and inspection work on the underground transmission lines, verifying lightning operations with the FALLS (Fault Analysis & Lightning Location System) software, performing line section reliability studies, coordinating the installation of motor operators on switches, coordinating the installation of fault indicators and analyzing failed hardware or components. Continuous Improvement: With Minimal Oversight provided to employee: - Effectively Communicate results and recommendations to Unit manager and other team members. - Effectively Communicate Budget Projections, Critical Dates and Project issues, recommendations, Scope and Status to Unit Manager and other team members.
