As a trusted partner in addressing the most demanding applications, we are seeking a Principal High Voltage Engineer to provide design leadership and innovation in Chelmsford, MA. Position Overview The Principal High Voltage Engineer will serve as a critical member of our engineering and production team, offering leadership in the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage cable assemblies and systems operating up to 1 MV. These systems will support a wide range of cutting-edge applications, including medical x-ray equipment, military radar systems, pulsed power systems, particle accelerators, and high-energy physics programs. This role blends engineering innovation, technical project management, business development, and production support. You will act as a key technical authority, leveraging your expertise in pulsed power technologies and dielectric materials to solve complex engineering challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership:
- Lead the design and development of high-voltage cable assemblies, connectors, and insulation systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance requirements for medical, military, industrial, and scientific applications.
- Conduct electric field analysis, leveraging advanced modeling and simulation tools to optimize designs for high-voltage and pulsed power systems.
- Define and document design requirements, materials specifications, and testing protocols, balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability considerations.
- Serve as the primary technical expert in resolving high-voltage insulation challenges, including solutions for solid, liquid, gaseous, and vacuum dielectric systems.
- Pulsed Power and High-Voltage Expertise:
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to develop advanced high-voltage connections for pulsed power technologies, ensuring robust performance in demanding environments.
- Lead developmental and validation testing, including high-voltage breakdown testing, thermal analysis, and long-term reliability testing.
- Customer Collaboration and Business Development:
- Act as the primary technical interface for both new and existing customers, cultivating strong relationships and ensuring their technical requirements are understood and met.
- Provide technical support during customer meetings, including concept discussions, design reviews, and project updates.
- Prepare and deliver detailed technical presentations, proposals, and reports to customers.
- Project and Production Support:
- Manage engineering projects from concept through production, ensuring timely delivery, quality assurance, and compliance with customer requirements.
- Support manufacturing teams by addressing design-related production challenges, ensuring seamless scalability and process optimization.
Qualifications
- Educational Background:
- Master's degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) is required. A bachelor's degree in a related technical field is also acceptable with equivalent experience.
- Technical Expertise:
- Superior knowledge of dielectric materials and their processing techniques, including solid, liquid, gaseous, and vacuum systems.
- Understanding of HV cable manufacturing processes, electric field theory, and high-voltage insulation systems.
- Experience with mechanical design for high-voltage components, including CAD modeling and simulation software.
- Experience with Pulsed Power Systems:
- Familiarity with designing and testing systems for pulsed power applications, such as particle accelerators, military systems, and high-energy physics devices.
- Communication and Leadership Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to present technical concepts.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage customer relationships effectively.
- Travel Flexibility:
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings, conferences, and technical support (<10%).
