Description

Utilizing independent judgement, the Chemist Lab Supervisor supports sales and operations by performing and overseeing chemical analysis on EQS products. This position supervises the personnel in the chemistry laboratories.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Supports the Company philosophy concerning unions and works to maintain a union free environment through the utilization of good supervisory practices.
  • Possesses a strong commitment to a safe work environment and practices and maintains adherence to Company Safety Policies through education and accountability.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the analytical equipment in the chemistry laboratories, including around the clock support of Operations regarding in process chemistries and equipment.
  • Responsible for lab adherence to Quality System requirements (AS9100, ISO 17025, etc.)
  • Supervises the personnel in the chemistry laboratories and ensures they act impartially, display competency, and work in accordance to Quality System requirements.
  • Perform chemical analysis of samples, when necessary, and approves chemical testing results.
  • Responsible for evaluating and overseeing procurement of new or replacement chemistry laboratory equipment.
  • Assigns projects related to chemistry laboratory equipment and/or chemical analysis.
  • Works with Sales Department on chemistry laboratory capabilities
  • Represents EQS in technical community meetings (ASTM, etc.) that are relevant to EQS's processes
  • Supports customers in regard to product chemistries or other chemical analysis.
  • Other projects, including travel (local, national and international), if required.
  • Abides by all policies and procedures established by the Company including plant safety regulations and work rules.
  • Must have ability and desire to work with others.
  • Meets attendance requirements.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary.


EDUCATION:




  • Four-year Technical Degree required or a commensurate level of experience. Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred.




EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably in the steel industry and five (5) years laboratory experience. Supervisory experience preferred


DRIVING:




  • Required to have an active and valid driver's license, or the ability to travel and commute as required, and comply with the Motor Vehicle Safety Program.




PREREQUISITES:




  • Must possess a sense of urgency in executing responsibilities; Must be a team player;



  • Must possess effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;




  • Must possess excellent decision making and problem-solving skills and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Must have the willingness and ability to be available and work outside of normal work hours


EQS TRAINING:



  • Theoretical Steelmaking Course (unless technical degree supersedes).
