Engineer, ELS/ Product Safety Engineer Engineer, ELS / Product Safety Engineer (TUV SUD America, Inc.; San Diego, CA): Duties and responsibilities: Act as a Product Safety Engineer for TUV America; Act as Project handler for Audio and Video technologies (IEC 62368-1), Laboratory equipment (IEC 61010-1), and Laser Measurement equipment (IEC 60825-1); Inspect, test, and photograph products for conformity assessment with international and national regulations, with the result being a Certificate, Test Report, and/or Technical Report for the client; Perform Constructional Review, Testing, Preliminary Evaluations, and Certification activities; Serve as a Test Engineer for Medical equipment (IEC 60601-1); Perform tests and make test data report for assigned medical projects; Prepare reports and documentation of customer products to the appropriate standards from other categories; Complete Product Safety engineering services through telephone consulting, customer education, and seminars on Product Safety; Communicate, orally and in writing, with Product Safety Agencies such as UL, CSA, and VDE with respect to product design approaches for safety; Communicate in a courteous and effective manner with internal and external customers in all circumstances, including providing quotes, answering questions, relaying messages, and providing information regarding standards, test procedures, and technical recommendations to bring products into compliance with requirements; Maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested, and appropriate internal information; Keep abreast of present and future Product Safety requirements, test procedures, instrumentation, technology, and TUV America Engineering service capabilities by completing internal training sessions and external seminars and by reading technical articles; Perform Factory audits according to the certification procedures, such as NRTL and TUV SUD Marks; Manage assigned projects, administrating the process from project planning to the completion; Participated in onboarding activities helping new engineers in their process to become project handlers; Support Laboratory supervisor in testing Laboratory improvements. Occasional domestic and international travel required (up to 10%) to supplier locations to perform onsite testing or safety audits. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field; PLUS 2 years of product safety Engineering experience for Audio and Video technologies and Laboratory equipment. Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the following subjects: Electrical, optical, and reliability test equipment; Electrical, wireless, or RF products; Safety requirements from standards IEC 62368-1, IEC 61010-1, and IEC 60825-1; Testing and reporting procedure according to ISO 17025 and accreditation bodies such as IEC and NRTL; Product Safety compliance for electronics products for the American market; Assuring standard requirements such as UL, CSA, NOM, FCC, and FDA; Safety Laboratory administration; Management of UL-approved Laboratories following ISO 17025 rules; Electrical Test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, power meters, thermo-meters, environmental chambers, RF measurement equipment, and laser power meters; Designing Quality systems accredited under ISO 9001 and IATF 16949; Risk analysis for electronics equipment design/DFMEA; and Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
