Job Summary Operate, maintain, and repair machinery/heavy equipment. Primary Activities and Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g. dump truck, crane, coal pusher/dumper, bobcat) Maintain mechanical parts of conveyors and bulk material handling equipment Operate and maintain diesel pushers Operate electric and gas welding equipment Fabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materials Perform periodic service on machinery Operate car retarders and electrical switches Perform clean up activities in the dock area as well as other general laborer duties Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager Pay Rate Full rate $41.56/hour Training You will attend paid training, which could be out of town. CSX will pay for travel and lodging as required by collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED 18 years of age or older Valid Driver's License Heavy mechanical repair experience Experience operating heavy equipment Outside work experience Preferred Qualifications Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) Welding certification Physical Requirements Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 83 pounds on a rare basis Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis Basic Competencies Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications) Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills) Basic Math Job Requirements Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations The applicant selected may be required to successfully complete a background check Must pass all required assessments Must pass a background screening Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership is req.
