The Food Programs Supervisor leads the university's food-related basic needs programs, focusing on strategic planning, equitable resource distribution, and program effectiveness. Additionally, the supervisor supports the ASUCD Pantry and oversees operations of the Basic Needs production kitchen, including food sourcing, ordering, recovery, repackaging, and creative resource management to maximize efficiency and impact. The role ensures all processes align with health and safety regulations, while assessing program performance to inform continuous improvement. Collaborating with campus and community partners, the Food Programs Supervisor fosters sustainable, innovative approaches to food security, advancing the university's mission to promote student well-being.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Bachelor's degree (E.g. Food service, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Social Work, Public Administration, Sociology, Communications) and/or equivalent experience.
* Three to five years of experience managing or coordinating community service programs in food services or basic needs.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations applicable to food service operations.
* Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
* Strong skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication; multitasking and intercultural competence and uses these skills to develop original ideas to solve problems.
* Advanced knowledge of risk assessment principles along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences.
* Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications

* CA Food Handler certified
* Experience in program management in higher education and experience working directly with students.
* Leadership experience with direct staff supervision and development in a dynamic environment.
* Experience working with diverse populations, and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
* Strong network with local and national food security organizations to enhance program outreach and effectiveness.
* Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
* Strong skills in project and program management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
* Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
* Experience in budget management and financial oversight.
* Strong knowledge of University and departmental policies, processes, and procedures.

The UC Davis Basic Needs Department serves as both a physical and virtual hub, providing essential support for students accessing vital services that impact their health, sense of belonging, and overall well-being. We define basic needs as financial stability, access to nutritious and sufficient food, secure housing, equitable health and medical care, support for emotional and mental well-being, affordable transportation, resources for personal hygiene, and emergency assistance for students with dependents.

The Basic Needs Center team is committed to taking action toward justice and belonging through prevention, intervention and emergency relief efforts addressing students' food, housing and financial needs. The Basic Needs Center offers the following services to all students: walk-in and virtual drop-in services, case management/care coordination services, emergency and long-term food support, housing support and financial resources.
