Position Summary
The Director of Finance for the Department of Psychiatry is a key member of the finance team, supporting the Associate Chair of Administration in managing and executing Psychiatry's financial strategies and operations. This role involves overseeing day-to-day financial activities, assisting in strategic planning, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations. Responsibilities will include ensuring financial stability, compliance with university and regulatory standards.

The position will lead and manage the development of strategic financial plans, oversee all financial aspects of the department, and work collaboratively with the FiRST team as a resource for the Department of Psychiatry. This role involves helping to develop budgets for upcoming years, ensuring current budget adherence, identifying and addressing budget discrepancies, and serving as a liaison between the department and Faculty Physicians finance. The Director of Finance will proactively review finances to identify potential issues and opportunities, collaborate with department leadership to ensure stakeholders have the information needed for accurate, well-informed business decisions, research and analyze strategic choices to make recommendations, evaluate fiscal, operational, and service impacts, exercise a high level of independent decision-making, and conduct presentations to various stakeholders. This position has high visibility with the Associate Chair of Administration, Chair of Psychiatry, and Department of Psychiatry leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Manager with Masters and 5+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelors with at least 1-2 yrs supervisory experience and 5+ years of relevant experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficient in financial software, data analysis tools, and MS Office. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Experience in supervising and leading a team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of state accounting practices, rules, and regulations as related to all fund source. Proficient in modeling of budgets and projects and working in large data sets. Knowledge of UNC systems preferred.
